Keyboard noob, KBT Pure, Ducky Shine 2, programming etc..

Hey guys!

I'm pretty new here and too all these keyboards. But I really like what I see here and would very much like to know alot about it.

I am planing on ordering a Ducky Shine 2, tkl.. not sure what switch yet. This would be for my main keyboard, for gaming and surfing. Can anyone tell me if its possible to change the switches and the LEDs? And are the switches and/or LEDs soldered to the PSB?

I really like the look and size of the KBT Pure. But im from Denmark and want something with a Danish/Nordic layout, so if there is something like that out there, then please let me kow.
Anyways what I really wanted to ask is if I can program the pure to have a danish layout? I know the PCB won't fit a 100% though.

Also, I'm thinking that I would really like to make a keyboard on my own, I know this will take a long time, since I dont know any programing, designing a PCB or don't really know much about keyboards either.
Might be a really dumb question, but what program language is used to program a Teensy?
And what would I need for a complete keyboard?
Case, backplate, pcb, USB controller like a Teensy, swtiches and keycaps plus stabelizers. Do longer keys not come with stabelizers or are they almost switches on their own? Did i mis anything?

This is a bit of a mouthfull, but its some of the questions I have had the past few days.
If this should have been posted somewhere else, then I apologize.. :)

You should be able to swap switches and led for Ducky, but it voids the warranty and they are available in most switches, unless you want something only 7bit has on group buy ;D

I would wait for Ducky's up coming board, it should atleast partly fill the ISO niche for sub-tenkeyless layouts and I believe it does have Nordic layouts available.

There is various group buys from time to time on these forums for self made boards, which makes it easy as all the hard work like desing of plate and PCB is done for you.

Here's a thread from Ducky Nordic: http://deskthority.net/marketplace-f11/ ... t4718.html
and their website (soon to go live): http://www.ducky-nordic.com/

AFAIK, the Ducky Shine uses plate-mounted switches with LEDs. This usually means that you have to remove four soldering points for each switch that you want to change (2 from LED + 2 from switch).

Ekaros: Ok thanks, I dont know wich switch i prefer, im getting I have bough a sample pack from 7bit and waiting for that to arrive so I can try all the different switches. Green, white and clear sound pretty nice to me and they arent excactly that popular in boards from manufacturers.

Do you know/remember the name of that board, because i havent heard about it. I know that Filco is lauching a 60% I would guess that, that would have an iso layout, but I just really like the alu cases of the Pure/Poker. :)

I am probably going with a GH60 at some point, and I just realized yesterday how much work is put in designing the pcb and stuff, so I probably wont be doing that for a long time.. :P

Kurrk: I have seen the thread and the site, but any news about when the site will open?

yahr, its probably not something im gonna do right away..

With the array of LED colors x MX Switches x full/TKL, Ducky has both the widest variety but also has yet to complete every option they aspire to do. For example, they just released Orange LEDs but are only available on full-size Shine II keyboards. MX Clears are on the way too.

I don't think there have been any custom build kits with full backlighting options on the PCBs outside of Korea. So, your only options are Vortex or Ducky. Also, Ducky's tech support presence is still minimal stateside; Vortex's is non-existent.

yahr I have seen that, but my current keyboard is kinda broke so I need something in the not too distant future. But I really look forward to the ducky-nordic.com site opens!

I havent seen that either, but if I get a 60% keyboard it would be secondary I think. I would use the Ducky shine for games and proabably web browsing.. :)

thanks for your reply

Nothing really concrete about 60% ducky, just that one is in prototyping...

For Clears I one option is going with Cherry G80-3000 and getting caps somewhere else. Should be mostly fitting...
