Firmware on New Model F (F77)

Hello,

I have a Model F (F77) from Model F Labs and I would like to flash the firmware so I can remap some keys.
I am trying to follow the instructions from https://www.modelfkeyboards.com/manual/#10 without much luck. English is not my first language but also I think the instructions are not very clear - various paragraphs that don't seem relevant, mentions of terms that have not been defined, things seem not to be in order, contradictions (e.g. "this is the only file you need" then later "you need to download also this file") etc. So it's not clear to me which steps are needed and in which order they should be done.

I tried downloading the QMK-layout-files.zip but when I try running the batch files (also not clear which file I should run), they just hang.
I also tried downloading Atmel Flip 3.4.7 which is mentioned later (should this be done first?) but this gives me an error.

If someone has done this successfully, could you please share the required steps.

many thanks

Hello kona, project coordinator here.

I believe the two files you mention point to the same link QMK layout files.zip - if not, please copy and paste both sentences and I will check.

The firmware flashing is step by step.

Some paragraphs only apply to certain controllers. The beginning of such paragraphs are indicated in bold. Example: "This paragraph applies only to the Leyden Jar" - all other paragraphs should apply to both controller types.

You have to install a third party program and enter the bootloader before flashing. This is mentioned in the step "Flashing xwhatsit in Windows: All of the following steps are only necessary if you have the xwhatsit controller."

You are not clear on what error you receive with Atmel. Please provide more details. The bat file will certainly hang if you have not successfully completed the previous steps.

It may be possible to use sites like Google Translate or AI to translate the manual automatically into your preferred language.
