Strong isopropyl alcohol on ABS is not a good idea, it can spoil the surface. I would only use it if other means are unsuccessful. E.g. ballpen marks are quite easy to remove with a bath in denture cleaners and a soft scrub.

Yes, white Alps are kinda nice switches, but the blue SMK switches that Monterey used in a lot of these boards are indeed an absolute favourite of mine.

If you're going for a converter, you can also use the "Micro Pro" which is dirt cheap, or the Teensy ...

Also, there is an open source converter: you can configure Hasu's TMK controller to convert AT to USB.

@WilliamG: I paid for my Round 5 order on November 18, 2013 and got my magnificent keycaps on August 8, 2015. Many people paid much earlier in Round 5 and waited longer than 2 years. You could have known that if you had read up on 7bit's GBs before committing.

Soarer wrote both a controller and an AT converter, these are two separate programs. The 5291 can be made to work with Soarer's controller, but it's used as kind of a converter for the output of the IBM capacitive sensing chips. I'm not sure if the IBM chips handle debouncing, but I don't think so.
