The geekhack version of this thread is much more about the keyboard, brainstorming thereabout, and programming thereof, than this thread--which has become a toxic massdrop witchhunt. I say keep the massdrop paranoia here, and go there if you actually want to participate in a productive discussion ...

That's the one! They had thought about sourcing components from McMaster-Carr, but ultimately the red ones seen in the photos are just generic rubber screw-caps from home depot or something.

I have only seen pictures on here. I didn't sign up for a MD account. As far as I am concerned, you are ordering ergodox with case with no legs.

Also, when I designed the case, I didn't account for conductivity with acrylic :-). Didn't need to. Now the same design is made with metal. I can't tell ...

One quick question: should I get the ErgoDox or rather the Kinesis Advantage?

I guess the main advantage of Kinesis is the ergonomic case, with the 'wells' for both hands. On the other hand, both ErgoDox halves can be aligned freely with any distance between them, but the halves themselves are ...

I'd sign up for DCS with legended qwerty alphabet + numbers. I think the rest are highly moveable and subject to relocation, so maybe DCS-row appropriate blanks for the rest of the keys on the board.

Also, this might be a completely stupid question, but: if we had enough orders, you think we could ...

They used the design that litster provided them; as well, using screws that would lay flush with the surface would add machining cost to the case.

Speaking from experience, it's actually quite easy to update your order--you just go to Payment History and every unit you've committed to purchasing appears there, and can be edited individually. I tried this out after deciding that I wanted to go with the Full-Hand route instead of the Classic ...

I didn't know Massdrop was going to run this. I put in an order myself today. We can definitely work something out for these kits. Pricing will be higher than a normal set due to the number of 1.5 keys needed. When we order in normal 104 key sets, so one of these sets would use up 6 sets worth of ...

You absolutely can; Massdrop is by no means compulsory. However, if you want a potenially-$199 potentially-tomorrow option, it will potentially do this for you, if you choose to use it.

Massdrop has posted up a blog entry about the Ergodox. Some highlights:
  • Start date for the buy
  • Case material options
  • Shipping rates & details
  • Price details
Also it seems someone there has been reading the thread, as this blog entry would appear to be addressing webwit directly.

Damn! Nice work, Aloisius. Are you going to keep the fun foam base, or are you planning on getting a case for it? I can ask for a case-only option for you for the buy, if you like. Apparently they're supposed to scale well in production, so hopefully it'd be far cheaper than getting it on your own.

Any updates?

Given that it's now January, in theory the Massdrop might be starting soon according to their estimate from December. It probably depends on their own parts orders for the prototype they were making. I've been getting excited/antsy myself, so I'll ping them to see where they're at ...

there are 4 holes where you could screw in legs like the ones you get with KMACs.

ask them to do a prototype of the case.

They're doing this now, I believe. I would assume that it's the prototype, as well as the changes to their site, that are setting this so far out, rather than starting it sooner/now.

As for the legs, I'm not sure--did the designs you gave them include the ...

I think it may be easier to split this down the middle, geekhack to a US group buy, deskthority do a group buy. Before this implodes on itself. Bringing in 3rd parties to handle this better than ourselves is never going to work or provide as much value.

Alternatively, split it down the middle ...

Also: they've made a separate poll for the case type. I don't believe this will be a winner-take-all thing, but rather just for them to gauge who wants what so they can shop the orders accordingly. I believe everyone will be able to get the case they want.

Similar to JesuswasaZombie's point, ask people involved in changdrew's taobao or imsto buys how easy it is to get your money back from a community figure if the buy falls through.
