Got the mouse today. First impressions are good , its decent build quality and feels nice in the hand. At 4000dps its way too sensitive for me, 1600 is the sweet spot for me.

Getting consensus on the legends might be the difficult step. SA and others seem able to churn out custom keycaps.

Yeah, well, they often just switch the LEDs with a FET that can take the current.

PWM and bigger resistors have the same effect - reducing average current, and reducing brightness. PWM might not be the best choice if peak current is still over the 500mA USB limit!

How do you keep track of what is programmed on each key? The factory keycaps for some keyboards have 3 or more legends printed.

Why folding? I'd think that a thin 60% keyboard, with a protective cover over the keys, would be easily transportable. The folding aspect introduces a lot of complications.

Could buy the cheapest POS terminal keyboard on ebay and have ~122 victims to practice on.

Since the original IBM keycaps are dye sub'd, you could buff them to a high shine using a cloth buffing wheel. You'll need to research what buffing compound is appropriate for that type of plastic.
