Re: IBM 5100 find

That 5100 of yours looks to be in pretty good shape considering it's a barn house find. I suggest wearing gloves when you begin your restoration as the foam underneath the card cage will most likely have turned into a nasty puddle of tar that can be very difficult to wash off. Good luck on the rest...

Is there any other stuff found to share in the gold barn?
Yes it is, I got a few other things, being the 5100 by far the most interesting, but I need some time to process that because now I have a problem of lack of space at home...

Re: IBM 5100 find

el psy congroo Nice find! Hopefully you can find some spare caps for the missing keys there. For the missing keycaps I've thought about making reproductions. The left shift is easy as it is the same as the right shift. For the "CMD" I think it is the same mould than the 5251 "Enter" key but rotated...

IBM 5100 find

This is a recent awesome "barn find". An IBM 5100 with its matching IBM 5103 printer. At last a laptop with a proper keyboard! but you will need a very strong lap by the way as this thing weights some 23Kg :? . The printer is simillary weighted. printer.JPG It is a spanish machine, but the only loca...

Re: ibm beamspring 3278 with APL capsets find

You can easily get black or grey replacement keycaps from an inexpensive IBM Selectric typewriter (can be found here in Spain in decent condition for about 20-30€). The spacebar will need modding If you want to add a stabilizer to it though. White keycaps are much much more difficult to find, and w...

Re: Great/Interesting Finds

The german scrap king has today what looks like a beam spring with blue housings (???)

I don't remember ever seeing beam spring switches like those.

Condition is less than ideal though.

Re: Question about my IBM "industrial" / "grey" Model M

For sure there are more black square badge ISO model Ms around. ABBFD40A-4C17-4593-82FC-73EA234D4C87.jpeg I recently got this one, Spanish ISO, and firstly I wasn’t sure about its legitimacy, but it came with older parts, like a black coiled sdl cable, rainbow colored plate and yellow wires. Also we...

Re: IBM 5251 Beam Spring Restoration

Hi! Great work! And lucky owner !! Do anyone know if the crossed grooves in the lower metal plate have any use? I always ask myself why did IBM bother to make that grooves... Are they functional to the PCB , capacitance or whatever? Luca There is a plastic sheet between the plate and PCB with the s...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread

It slightly reminds me of an HP computer but I will try and research more a bit later. Of course keyboards built into desks were the superior choice for long hours compared to these un-ergonomic systems. 250_1981-PromoPhoto-38.jpg That monitor size and placement doesn't look very ergonomic or comfo...

Re: Yet another beamspring refurb (5251)

@AJM, Thanks a lot for the " little hooks were bent" tip, I had one switch just affected by this that I thought was somehow broken and now feels perfect after reseating the hooks.
