jwaz has been asking me for probably a year now about doing a presentation on keyboard protocols (and reverse engineering) so I thought I'd make that the focus of this meetup.
I'll make a small presentation as well as some demos.
I have all the tools necessary, but if anyone has a more portable oscilloscope (mine is an old analog one) that would be amazing.
Some of the tools I'll need to do a proper demo
- Breadboard /w assortment of wires, connectors, and resistors
- Teensy 2/3 (I prefer to do all new code on ARM microcontrollers)
- Logic Analyzer (I'll be bringing a Salae Logic 8 )
- Variable power supply (in case the keyboard has a greater than 5V input voltage)
- Multimeter (with continuity)
- Soldering iron and basic soldering tools if things get interesting
- Oscilloscope for the early reverse engineering
Windows has tools available, but setup is annoying.
Mac OSX is basically the worst as you have to buy expensive tools to debug properly (though you can get some things after installing some devtools from Apple).
Haven't decided which protocols I'll demo, but I'll take suggestions (if I have the keyboard, and I can get it working before the meetup).
Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
