Need Advice

I'm really needing some advice about what to do with my current situation. I'm attempting to buy a keyboard from a guy in Russia right now, and we are trying to figure out shipping right now. UPS can't do it, DHL Can't do it, I just called up fedex and they can't do it because the 'value is too high'...so I'm pretty much stuck with RUS Post right now. The keyboard itself is $300.
Normal Fedex has a value limit, and $300 exceeds that limit, so they are out. Fedex Freight (tried them too) said shipping would be $3000 and it would be likely damaged.
I've heard too many horror stories about Eastern Europe shipping...but RUS Post might be the only option now...
Would it be smart to have him send it via RUS Post to someone in the UK/Europe? and then they send to me? OR would it be better to send straight to me (RUS->US)? Possibly I could tell FedEx the value is $100 but then i wouldn't have the insurance on the full value, but at least have the security of Fedex shipping.
My number one concern is safety, then cost, and then time. I'd appreciate any input or piece of advice about this.
