Found this keyboard laying on the side of the road near my place a few weeks ago, thought I'd upload some photos :D.

The case and keys are very yellow. Plugged it into one of my older computers and it worked fine!

I hate it when idiots think it's alright to throw away a perfectly functioning keyboard. I hope they choke on their crummy new Logitech Junk.

Anyway you at least scored with a FREE keyboard, don't forget to give it some life and plug it into a PC for regular usage. Nothing better than to keep on using something that some moron thought was rubbish.

Ten years ago, sure, someone probably just replaced this already ancient keyboard and tossed it. But a winkeyless Alps board isn't the sort of thing anyone who's not into keyboards would still have kicking around these days. Perhaps the guy croaked and someone else chucked it out when clearing the joint.

Yes folks: write a will. Or maybe just remind your relatives that it's not just you who's into crummy old keyboards.

Oh, Strafe: what's it sound like?

Nice pictures!

Have you considered to upload the pictures into the wiki? http://deskthority.net/wiki/Chicony_KB-5161

Interesting — 5161F/5162F is the PCB ID for Cherry MX blue and Cherry MX clones. (Blue Alps is C)

Since A means NKRO (regardless of switch), maybe F doesn't mean Cherry, but rather some other change in the design?

They are clicky, but nowhere near as loud as my Model M. Doesn't really sound like any of my other keyboards (which have cherry black, red and brown switches), so don't really have anything to compare it to.

I think the switches need some lubrication, they are a bit stiff to press at times, and aren't really very forgiving if you don't press directly down on the keys.

@Muirium: Canon keyboard with white Alps: http://deskthority.net/marketplace-f11/ ... ml#p132475 — should give you an approximate idea of what white Alps sound like (varies by board of course)

@strafe: That's normal for white Alps — all mine are like that. I've never tried using any lube on them — I know the Japanese are big into lubing Alps.
