The problem seems to be an rf choke(?) on the usb cable that's too big for the space between the pcb and the case. Can I just remove the choke? Is it an easy thing to do?

I treated Mr Filco to a metal suit from vortex this Christmas. I'm having a little trouble fitting him in (the little bugger has put on weight!).

Remove the shrink-tubing and take a look. If it's standard, you should be able to remove it easily.
