Unicomp two part keys

FYI, Unicomp is selling keyboards with two parts: key cap + stem. Just like in the old days of the model M.

I bought a Unicomp Ultra Classic recently and was quite (pleasantly) surprised by this, so I contacted support and asked if this is standard across their range. The answer is no: some units have two part keys, others have the Unicomp one part keys. I asked if it's an option customers can ask for. They didn't exactly say yes or no: they said it depends on stock levels. OK.

So the good news is, if you're into two part keys or you need replacement parts, Unicomp might be able to help you.

They sell a complete set for only 30USD plus shipping :

(Despite what it says on the site, the sets I've received all included a spacebar !)
If you order a 'printed' Pearl/Pebble colour-set they are 2-piece, other colours are 1 piece .
I think it's the same with the complete boards, unless they are changing something ?

They are really good caps btw and can be used as spare-parts for a original Model-M .
The font is slightly different so you will probably want a complete re-keying ..

One part is better.

No. The only way this ever matters is if you plan to use transparent caps with your own labels behind it.

Well, if you plan to USE the damn board it does make cap-cleaning a lot simpler ..
