Discerning list… uh… matey. Arr!
Can't argue with the AT—the only one I have—it's a cracker of a board. Second best layout Model F ever came in. Indeed, it and my Kishsaver are the only Model Fs I've kept, as they're both so good. Nothing comes close to that sharp and oh so satisfying Model F click.
I, too, would love a Magnavox with browns. I wouldn't even consider 'harvesting' it, as it's such a tidy layout as it is. Much more my style than so many full-size vintage boards.

Yeah, its just so crisp. Also its just so different to everything else out there. Even Model M BS just doesnt really cut it... its very good but slightly less satisfying (at least for my monke brain)

As I already have a 5140 keyboard that I will harvest for the caps and switches, the Videowriter would stay one piece. Just tidy it up and make it usable Such a cool looking board. Also the layout is really usable, especially with added qmk/via capability.

Take Undo for Fn and you've got an HHKB nav layer. I'd map Caps Lock to Control (obvs), Style to Command and Insert to Option. For a board like that, you can dig it.
Good news: the controller is socketed. You could pull it out and swap it for a Teensy++ for a non-destructive conversion.

There are a couple of VideoWriters and a DC-2014 for sale on eBay right now, though they aren't exactly cheap.

Goes to see what you mean… Not cheap, indeed! Either one would be, by far, the most I've ever spent on a board.

Everything is relative, compared to pine neon green Alps these are quite affordable

That is so cool ! If I ever get one, I´ll do that.
Its funny, videowriters are quite rare in germany, but yesterday, one popped up (like minutes after I wrote this post)
Sadly, it was a unit with a keyboard from malaysia, so no dice there

same , especially for a vintage board that is not already like 200$ just for the slab of alu and brass its milled out of
