So this is my first bolt mod and I am understandably nervous and used the geekhack wiki page only to discover Mc-Master doesn't ship to Canada. I was wondering if any fellow Canadians (or anyone really) could help give me a link to the parts they used, I already tried digging up local stuff but got a bit overwhelmed with everything and with places like Home Depo straight up not actually having enough bolts for the project (they had about 50 or so)

Hey, thanks for the really fast reply, I do have a question, so does that mean the washers are basically optional because I'ev been seeing A L O T of those.used in most bolt mod tutorials

Don't know. It never crossed my mind and I didn't see anyone else doing it. I'm sure it would help but mine covered the holes fine with just the screw nuts and the bolt mod seemed tight. Haven't had any problems.

I lived in the suburbs of Atlanta when I did my first bolt mod so I just drove over to McMaster-Carr to get them, but since then I have always ordered them off ebay from China at a small fraction of the price. But you have to be willing to wait 2-3 weeks, of course. I don't even know if there is a realistic Imperial substitution for M2 without going to something like a modelling hobbiest store.

Quality of screws is irrelevant in my opinion, because, face it, you are replacing a shaft of plastic with a shaft of steel. And for approximately the same reason, there is no reason to tighten the nuts beyond barely "finger tight" in my opinion, so I just hold a 4mm socket in my fingers.

Personally, I prefer to use washers whenever possible. That is generally everywhere except maybe the bottom-most row where it gets really close to the bottom case shell.
