MOD: Cherry G80% (aka DE-Saver... terrible pun combo x2)

I could not sleep tonight, might be because of the full moon or something. So I finished painting the case last night outside at like 4 am, resulting in me being at work again already at 7, after sleeping for like two hours. Time managing like a boss.
Anyway, this originally was a G80-9000 phoneboard PCB (full nkey rollover, led keys) and a G80-3000SAD case. CeeSa cut the PCB and the case for me, I painted it and I am working on the PCB. Currently the board is not functional (I think the diodes are in the wrong direction to work with the Aikon), but the conversation is half-way done now. I am also modding it to ANSI layout. You can see the left shift is already done. I had to go with this solution, since the Dolch right shift key obviously will not fit (since its smaller than the g80-3000 series...). So modded PCB + RGB it is.
I painted the case in this industrial grey (RAL 7000, Fehgrau), because I love the industrial look. Keycaps are from a Dolch and match it as I had imagined.

Great look! I didn't really dig the Dolch keycaps before, but here there's a great match with the color of the case.

Very nice sixty!
Loving the color.
I need to find that grey vinyl dye and do this to my Model M.
Ceesa did a very good job making the case flush after cutting it.

Is the cut part glued together with the end of the part which was cut away?

Did you give this one the G81 metal plate treatment as well?

This will be the new deskthority tenkeyless keyboard. Sixty is currently working to make 200 of them. Aren't you?

He uses spare parts to make bridges to stabilize the construction from the inside. A lot of epoxy and plastic glue. Not pretty, but very stable.

So clean, very well executed! Cut line is invisible. What kind of paint did you use? Is it a vinyl dye or plastic paint?

It was a spray-can branded "Duplicolor", it was what CeeSa and also the guy in the store recommended for ABS plastic.
For some reason vinyl dye is literally impossible to find in Europe. I assume it must be actually banned due to some silly laws or something. I found a few cans in the UK a while ago, but that was only black, nothing else. I never saw it again ever since.
Also, the way this was done is by filling the cut line with epoxy, then sanding it even and then finally painting it. The line is slightly visible at one part near the top, where I should have done some more sanding, but it is not actually visible in the pictures.

I would pay you to do this to one of my G80-3494's. Looks amazing!

Should be paying CeeSa, he did the most work. The paintjob was the easy part! If I cut off the numpad myself, I would now be using a one hand Maltron.

Absolutely amazing how you did this mod. CeeSa and Sixty should write a DIY manual and post it under 'workshop'
Regards.

I like the colored Control, Alt, and Shift key caps. They go well.
I should ask Unicomp some day if they'll make me colored Crtl, Alt, and Del keys for my keyboard. It'll be a true Microsoft Windows keyboard!

Ironically your Model Ms lack Windows keys.

Okay, how did you get that cut to disappear so nicely?

Heh...nobody had responded to that:
sixty: Do you have a picture of the case before the paint job?
And can you take some close-ups of the cut?

Board is currently in storage. I will take out on the weekend and try to do some more pics. I think I do not have any pre-paint pictures anymore, but I will look.
