An optical switch? I say this with ignorance to the nuances of certain electronic components, but this certainly looks exotic. Very nice, HaaTa.

I guess that's just a very ancient controller and the firmware was burnt through that lens.
Todays iC aren't too different but "baked" into that black iC brick material we all love

I think it's some beautifully obsolete Soviet EPROM technology.
Edit: Wodan beat me to it.

It's for erasing the EPROM with UV light.

EPROM chips with UV windows was pretty much the norm for erasable PROM chips back in the '80s.

Most amazing shot so far, no Artisan C(r)ap or other modern Christmas-Tree with unicorn puke can come close to this!

Oh cool, it's coming up to that time of year where HaaTa posts his entire year of finds in a week to sway the results of the DT awards.

It goes without saying.
He'd better hurry. The awards start on 11/20/2016 and end on 12/10/2016. That gives sponsors a week to ship and two weeks for shipments to arrive before 2017.
The graphic announcing the awards should be up soon.

I got one in a Romanian made hall effect keyboard
One day I'll get a decent camera and take wiki worthy pics of all this stuff.
