Hi all,

I've just received a few light orange blank keys from the 1976 PMK buy. These were definitely described as OBC, but now I look at them, they look more like OAS. The difference is slight so I'm not sure if I'm imagining it. Any thoughts?

OBC is slightly paler yellower orange than the redder OAS, but it's difficult to capture.
All the orange keys shown are 1976 "OBC" keys, except the one key below the OBC chip which came from 7bit. The 1976 keys do seem to match the OAS chip better, as the key from 7bit matches the OBC chip better. Have I totally lost it?

I have some orange caps from one of 7bit's grab bags if you want one for comparison.

Thanks, it might be safer to stick with the colour chips though.

Part of the problem is that the cap I think is OBC: being from a 7bit grab bag I don't know for sure what colour it's supposed to be - and might be a colour failure anyway.

I might just ask SP if they know for sure which colour was used in the 1976 buy.

What's your motive? Got something planned or just our good friend OCD?

No grand plans, I just wanted some orange blanks for use with Round 5.

In simple terms, I'm not sure I got the product I ordered. But I can't tell for sure if didn't, or if I have just lost it.

It was supposed to be OBC, but SP mistakenly swapped colors on my Rad Hard group buy, so it wouldn't shock me if it has happened again. I will ask Melissa.

This boggles my mind! How can something like this happen? Is stuff like this expected when dealing with SP?

Here is the response from SP:

We noticed that too, unfortunately we had to bring in a new lot of OBC to run this order and that is the color it came in at. There is always color variation from lot to lot with resin production and this unfortunately was in the OBC window but on the far end of the acceptable scale.

This implies that the color rings are not a perfect reference, just a close approximation.

Wow, thanks very much for that. Maybe it would have been helpful if they'd told you about this before! Though I must be splitting hairs if I'm picking up fractional differences within colours.

Yeah, clearly colour chips aren't confirmation, unless they're from the same lot of resin that'll be used in production. I wonder if SP have any way of telling which lot a particular chip was produced from? If not, a close approximation is all they can ever be, I guess.
