Take it up with Vortex.

Not that I mind. Caps Lock is normally a wasted key to me. Flipping a DIP switch on the Pok3r at least gives it purpose (and a pretty darned useful one at that). It's not like I'm doing any layer programming and turning that key into something truly inexplicable.

I'm happy to have zero dealings with Vortex! None of their stuff appeals to me.

The trouble with using Caps Lock as an Fn key is that you're reprogramming yourself. You're hitting the key to the left of A every time you use the arrow keys now on your Poker? If so, that's a heavy piece of muscle memory training that might bite you on the jacksie every time you use a sensible regular keyboard. And if not, you're not really repurposing that key.

I did try Fn there for a while on my IBMs via Soarer's Converter. Didn't stick. The only place I'm really happy with Fn is right of right Shift, where Professor Wada intended. (The XT has a key in that position and thanks to Soarer I was able to use it as my HHKB trainer long before I got the real deal.) I even tried to give Caps Lock an alternate purpose on my homemade 60% by using an MX Lock switch there. Ultimately, I'm only happy with Control on that key. I even remapped my MacBook Pro's keyboard to the same. It's an easier key to reach than "real" Control, stuck away out there, and it lets me make the best out of my winkeyless Model Ms, too. Consistency right across my boards is its own reward. And I can remap that one myself in OS X, without being dependent on any software or switches.

I fear you've placed yourself beyond anyone's ability to help you.
You've written an excellent definition of a keyboard enthusiast! I am happy in my affliction!

My left hand is my chording hand. I am already used to using my left pinky for Ctrl+ and Shift+ everywhere. Using Caps Lock as FN+ is hardly a muscle memory challenge. Using my right hand for chording of any kind, on the other hand, is.

The Pok3r maps I, J, K, and L as the cursor keys (when combined with FN). My muscle memory is accustomed to using an arrow cluster with my right hand, and my right hand presses no other keys while doing so. I intend to keep that pattern, the only difference is that my right hand shifts over a little from where the arrow cluster normally is to I,J,K,L instead.

But in order to affect cursor navigation, I still need to chord with FN somehow. The Caps Lock key comes to the rescue here as it allows my left hand to activate the arrow key functionality of I,J,K,L without burdening my right hand with any other duties. And it gives that bloody Caps Lock key a purpose. I don't need it to be Control since CTRL is already conveniently under my left hand, and under my left pinky where all my muscle memory expects it to be.

If you use right ALT with your thumb as function key you don't have to stretch or move your hands most of the time.

@zslane: Excellent rationale for your keyboard chording. Moreover, if you can play the oboe, you should be able to do just about anything!

I did this kind of caps lock modification with the help of xkb on Linux. I pretty much like it. It is much more than just less movement with your hand rather than super speed editing on steroids, when your muscle memory kicks in (From a programmers point of view). My caps lock key is a mod5 switch and a completely new layer with all keys involved, like shown in the picture below.

Muir is right though, at other keyboards/computers I struggle a few times until my fingers just get it, that "you cannot do this here". But it really does not bother, because I am writing 99,9% of my time at my own desk. Perhaps you should try it, I really do love this setup. Unfortunately I didn't set this up on my own, credits go to the guy in this thread, he is simply genius, look at the 'extended' section:

Agreed on both counts.

Of course, I'm just a beginning student of the oboe. I wouldn't exactly call what I do "playing".

Just ordered some HONEYB stuff... The HONEY caps are just so damn nice, umhhh...

Quick Q1: Does 7Bit accept PayPal or something less expensive than bank transfer?

Quick Q2: Will the prices drop, when more is ordered?

Quick Q3: If prices drop, will my invoice be updated and in turn make it possible to order more?

As 7bit is away for a few days:

Q1: Yes, AFAIK Paypal and Google Wallet are supported. The details should be in your invoice (or what 7bit calls an invoice).
Q2: Theoretically yes, but don't expect too much...
Q3: Exactly, that's what will happen.

I cancelled my order and there are a lot of funds on my r5a account. How do I get my money back?

PayPal is the preferred method now. Do not use Google Wallet. The account that took payment via GW was shut down and so if you send money that way, it will not reach 7bit.

Help, I got a wrong left shift key for my kbt pure pro. The size was correct but the stem won't fit. Which one is the right key for this?

Which keyboard is that? Is the switch off-center? Looks like it's a little to the right, but the picture isn't very good...

It's kbt pure pro. Btw the keycap I got for the shift was BLANK/R2U200/GREY. Maybe it was not intended for left shift key? Currently i'm using a backspace key from vortex for left shift here the photo vortex back space and BLANK/R2U200/GREY

hi all,

it seems my space bar is too long..... can anyone help me .....

anyone got a spare one(i can pay for it) , or anyone could tell me what kind of space bar should i order from 7bit (if there still got some leftovers)

And thank for what 7bit and 7bot have been doing :D

Count the units. Each alpha key is 1 unit wide. If your oversized spacebar is 7 units, you are lucky. You can get a standard 6.25 unit key. But if you need 6.0 units, you're in trouble. It doesn't exist in SA profile!

I think there are no 6.25 Spacebars in the leftovers?!
:(

You can try it in the R5 Aftermarket Thread:

Or you could just get it from PMK

Unless their order page has a typo, the 6.25u red spacebar you'd be ordering would be RAC, not RAS, and wouldn't quite match your red alphas from Round 5.

You should listen to zslane. Because the red doesn't match, I recommend buying a black (NN) spacebar instead. If the mismatch doesn't bother you, then Godspeed.

i bought the black one. Thanks!
