Sure, but they may have cheated.

SSK is so last season now.

(Although if I chopped an M, I'd probably just go TKL. Then get it working via Bluetooth.)

May I join the club? ^_^

Here's my SSK platoon (bodies/parts are hanging out in the closet). They're awaiting my tender loving care. Except for the one at the 45 degree-ish angle. She's done.

Here's the "NIB" I got around the same time. Just now getting some pics of it and decided to post them here. It's also from 1987. Seems to be a popular year for these suckers.

Here is a close-up view of my NIB IBM SSK showing the beautiful PBT dye subs with the embedded numeric keypad and cursor keys. This is by far my favorite keyboard (in comparison to my Ducky TKL, Filco MJ2 Ninja TKL, Leopold FC660M, and even my full-size Model M). Typing is sure and precise. My speed and accuracy are better on the SSK than on any other board I have tried. Moreover, despite being a member of GH and Deskthority, I am so satisfied with the keycaps that I feel (almost) no need to modify them!

Yes, indeed. Truly beautiful. BTW, I just posted a brief comparative review on the SSK over on GH for anyone who might be interested.

Been using it for a week now. Absolutely love it. Didn't know I was such a sucker for Small Form Factored Keyboards....

Thanx to Ceesa for providing it!

Everyone's a sucker for little keyboards. It just takes us different times to realise it!

Added a bit of color to my SSK

I've tried colored keycaps on my boards and they just look terrible and are distracting to me. If you enjoy it then that's all that matters :)

I think some blank keycaps might work well though. I sure like the way my Otaku Leopold looks.

We members of DT and/or GH like to put our personal stamp on keyboards. However, I have felt almost no need to modify my IBM SSK (or full-size Model M) in any way. With other keyboards, I usually need to change the keycaps to achieve greater legibility and/or better feel. However, with the IBMs, they already have what I regard as the best keycaps -- dye sub PBT in a crisp font and two-tone color scheme for demarcation of functional islands. This makes my IBMs my least expensive keyboards! Ready to go w/o spending at least 95 USD extra for new keycaps!

I think I need a set of blank keycaps :)

To me, there is something chilling about a keyboard with blank keycaps. It is like encountering a man without a face. Worse, it is like discovering in your basement a featureless humanoid pod creature from the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers waiting for the final stamp of its identity to be conferred when you fall asleep....

Turn that logic on its head and you'd make a fabulous character in a horror story, RJ.

"Don't look in the basement. It's awful. The… thing, the man, the creature. I don't even want to talk about it. It's… like a keyboard with blank caps."
