what's going to happen to the transactions that were taking place

I don't get it, I recently started my registration here and on GH but favored GH because it was many times more active. I've been active on both forums for about two months.
Why is there so much hatred here towards GH? It almost seems as like it's "Deskthority VS Geekhack" when I read here, and many people here are enjoying the fact that GH is hacked despite the major problems this will cause individuals (like myself). From what I've seen so far, people here are behaving much worse then I've ever seen at GH. Just my honest opinion/observation

Ooops. Sorry. It's not a bad Hobbyist Forum per se. The wikis are excellent, the Lego pics are great, some good Ducky jokes, and some GREAT stuff on typography in the Ripster Subforum. It just was run by a moderator not willing to put the time into the site to make it GREAT,
Plus a third of the 23 Moderators were COMPLETE douchebags.

Where are you going to put all of your content now ripster?

My head.
Every other place there is a chance I'd be banned or R00TW0RMed.
Plus I assume iMav and Mkawa et. al. will continue to STEAL my wikis.

There is no general hate towards GH afaict. We have a few individuals who have fallen out with the GH operators and a lot of people frustrated by all the downtime and rollbacks. Most of the geekhack comments are just flaming and trolling.
Personally, I prefer DT because it is LESS active but there is some great content on geekhack and I hope they can safe it and get it to the new site.

Agreed.
I think there should be ONE keyboard WIKI for EVERYBODY that is NOT password restricted. All these fucking personality conflicts get in the way of a great hobby.
And WORLD PEACE!

It's Summer.
Plus I've learned my lesson about free content.
To make it viable I'd have to be like iMav and have vigilink revenues and a donation machine and free clueless drone Moderator labor.
Wanna volunteer? It's easy to strip the content once they post it and it IS CC with attribution license like I keep saying.

Add it to the DT wiki?

You first. That is not a Summer Activity.
The MediaWiki Image Uploader sucketh.
And iMav and the Moderator team aren't stupid. They treat my Wikis like Gollum treats the Ring.

I have been buying extra in group buys to sell I the UK, any profit was to be donated to GH but the site being down doesn't help with that?
Maybe I should buy you a desk fan to help you deal with the heat instead.

So the idea that content such as the threads might be missing?? That is huge, tons of super helpful info in there

Soldering iron threads (even after the year old babe pics were deleted), and other processes for projects and buying, etc. My Kinesis wiki only had about 150 posts, most of which I had added any crucial info into the wiki directly, but not all. I was part of a few massive threads on several topics that had a lot of direct value...some of which made it into the Kinesis wiki as part of general knowledge. I'm very sorry this whole GH crushing blow has happened. GH has helped a lot of peeps with RSI...some life changing stuff for them.
GH was more than just content, but the content formed the basis of what what a supportive and knowledgable community. It was the peeps that made it all work. Saying any different is just not true. Of course, because peeps are variable, the ebb and flow of GH was a pendulum, and that's why most forums have hard and fast rules of engagement to keep things more even keeled, but every situation is different.
Someone contacted me about a possible group buy or position within their tiny operation to bring an ergo keyboard to market. Interesting. Their contact info is completely lost. Amazing the things that can happen once joining a keyboard forum.
And, very off-topic...with regards to some of my near-devastating life issues that continue to improve....some of you kook-a nuts really came out of the keyboard woodworks to offer support, advice, ideas, opportunity....that's more than I got from some key people. For this, I am extremely grateful. I mean really....offering money, job, or to work for me (since I'm an employer) for free??? Some of you guys have hearts of gold, I will NEVER forget the generous offers and support.
Back on topic:
I can see how GH may not come back to what it was....between the people losses that started a couple years ago and now the database......people and content that's all any forum is....
Good thing there are other options. Perhaps there should be more of a capital investment into Deskthority? Or a sister site that is ALL WIKI ALL THE TIME, or---? I don't know. My confidence is shaken, and I'm disappointed.
As a disclaimer: Of course there was a LOT of crap too.
Uh-oh. Wall-O-Text.
That didn't last long.

I have found that TouchTyping is a HUGE asset when doing the kind of Wikis I do.

I'm getting there with touch typing, nearly mastered the HHKB layout too.
I agree input_nirvana, it is a huge loss, how could iMav not have backed the site up?

good news! all content is safe (save the attachments we lost in the initial battlestar galactica-ish attack). the wikis are safe. we will work on migrating content to the new platform in the fullness of time. in the meantime, we will try to get the new platform up as quickly as possible.
I’m presuming by your post you’re appealing for help with theme creation? You sort of imply that you are, but don’t actually state that’s what you’re asking.
sorry, yes, that's exactly what we're doing. now that i've gotten a little sleep:
DENIZENS OF GEEKHACK, PLEASE HELP US MAKE AN AWESOME UI THEME FOR SMF 2!
samples and instructions are again: here
http://custom.simplemachines.org/themes/
anyway, thanks for your patience y'all. rest assured we're working hard on this, and we have strong reason to believe that they did _not_ have arbitrary access to the machine while the server was up.
for those in the know, the technical details are that there is some kind of huge arbitrary injection hole in vB, but that it takes a large number of trials to get a single successful command off. hence, they limited themselves initially to owning the index (which was itself non-trivial). when we continually thwarted them on that, they just said "screw it, let's just try to delete everything", and just repeatedly sent a blind recursive delete that eventually wiped out the live forums.

we're leaving vB behind entirely. the new platform will be the uber modern (and significantly more secure) SMF 2. it has most if not all the modern features one would want, is easy to extend, and still supports tapatalk ootb

That's all fine and dandy as long as mgmt realizes that this wasn't the fault of vB... it doesn't matter what software you're running if it isn't maintained and managed properly.
