The compaq is not bad for a RD if you get a good one. I have had a few , had a older cream/white one that was good , had a new-ish white one that was crap, but had a newer black one and that was fine.

Yes, but I`m still searching for a mechanical. I have a BTC Office 8190 for a rubberdome. Maybe the best RD ever...

I got this thing a while ago. The model sticker has been lost, so it was just listed as "white alps keyboard". I'm pretty positive it's an NTC KB-6252 - bamboo white Alps with full numbering, rimless pad printing, AT/XT switchable (labeled as "80286/8088"), but also a metal mounting plate instead of a plastic one. I couldn't find anything looking like a timestamp on the PCB, I only found one marking saying "71-E103A-103". From what I can tell on the wiki page, the model name should show up on the PCB, but this one doesn't have any. At least the controller chip has the same "NTC-6351A" label.

Hi guys! Do you know anything about the picture from the top? The plate is missing:

The Chicony is almost certainly NOT mechanical.

The middle one might be, but I'm doubtful due to the screws going through the middle of what would typically be a plate or PCB.

The top one looks mechanical, but I have no idea what it would contain. It reminds me of NTCs slightly.

It seems that Gear G2101 has White Alps. Chicony is RD for sure.

Edit So, Alps compatible keycaps , semi-mechanical for Gear G2101, in case someone needs to buy this model.

Any idea what this thing are? way overpriced but it looks intresting.

The font says Alps to me, as does the LED hole location on the GRAPH key. It could also be upside down MX switches, but the font is wrong for an MX 'board.

Edit: I made an offer on it. Fairly low, though, so someone could still get it if they want it.

Also note how sharp the keycap edges are; Fujitsu liked that a lot for their dyesub PBT caps (which are excellent by the way).

I figure, when I can't find documentation proving otherwise, that electronic typewriters have shoddy keys.
But that lock light keeps giving me a nagging suspicion that something Alps-y might be going on.
Anyone got any ideas?

No, some electronic typewriters came with really nice switches actually. Canon typewriters could come with Alps as well as SMK 2nd gens, among others. That looks like and Alps/SMK-generation one, though, but no guarantees.

Can anyone guess at what the keyboard mechanism might be from the key caps? I don't know the age and it's coming out of a unit that is manufactured by a company that doesn't make keyboards. It's on it's way to me so I won't know for a week or so. It's also from NASA.

Looks like it could be micro switch or hall effect.

I would have guessed that knowing where it's from but with the shift keys replaced with the smaller black 1u key caps, the mechanism that is exposed doesn't look like Micro Switch. Unless the keyboard mechanism is covered underneath the key caps.

Bought it, and it turned out to have Alps Integrated Domes, with an SKCL Green for the lock switch. ALPS MOUNT SPHERICALS, WOO!

Awesome! I have pretty much the same caps but in SMK mount, massive shame that because the caps are fantastic .

I'm not even sure what this thing IS -- the "HP WAN/T1 Internet Advisor J2301B" looks like a network-terminal-laptop-hybrid with a curious amount of hardware in the bottom case. Any ideas what the keyboard might be?

Yeah, it normally has a pcb on the back, which has the capacitive pads on it. This is just the bare switch assembly.

Key Tronic foam and foil, specifically. The worst of all foam and foil, probably.
