It's all about the knobs…
Now I have to figure out what excuse to use to throw some of those into my next custom. A rotary switch for selecting layers perhaps?
Volume knob? 3 position dial for your layers? Scroll Wheel? The possibilities are endless.

Isn't this more simple?
For the upper part
Then alu goes down in side wood grooves like those
Then with another bend goes to back
And the back part is wood
So the alu piece has a U shape

Give me Req's layouts, a Moog hybrid case and i'm all set. Knobs are the icing on the cake.

how about a horizontal 3 knobs above a numpad. Or a horizontal fader. But i think that would be too nutty.

what kind of knobs are you looking for function and style wise?

ALL OF THEM!

I'd say one should be "stepped" (don't know exactly how they are called), for function layer selection. Another should be "free" for volume control or scroll wheel or zoom.

And huge! What are you thinking?
Re: knobs. This may be informative for styles and names:
@ Matt3o Just doing a casual search i found these http://www.epektos.com/catalog/05bfcea6 ... 481f5.aspx
i know it says Philippines only but i'm using it more as a reference.
I can probably find a volume pot, and a 'stepped switch as well and that mini port looks sweet too. crazy heavy duty, looks like you can screw a cover to protect the connection over it.
@ Muirium good find, that has some interesting ones to be sure.
I know we have moved on to knobs but i figured id reference them for future use.

knob was just a crazy idea, I don't think I actually want one on a keyboard... I don't know

Yes, and the direction this goes is um ah ... a little bit strange. That's why i threw in the vintage synthesizer. Of course it's a nice idea, but i'm not sure if i would like a keyboard looking like such things.

let's stick on the keyboard part for now
bottom line... I need to run a prototype for this kind of case. I know it will look super cool, but I need a prototype nonetheless. gosh, this hobby is expensive.

Unfortunately, you can't use absolute knobs for volume/bass/treble control on a USB keyboard. There are only relative controls in the USB HID spec.

I don't quite understand. Could you draw a sketch?
I think the problem with having a groove is that it would have to be made in a separate step, either in a better CNC machine or manually with a table saw and a thin saw blade. If it was made by a saw, it would go all the way from one end to the other, and you would have to pay the wood-shop extra to do it.

for volume you just simulate a keypress, for scrollwheel a mouse button, and so on. There are knobs with "infinite" positions (you can rotate indefinitely)
but anyway, like I said, it was a crazy idea. there are other problems to solve, such as the bottom plate

I liked the knob idea. I personally mix the music I listen to post computer so I don't record my music when I record gameplay. A small a/b mixer and 3.5mm would be cool. I dont know where you are going with the knob idea but that is a use that I can think of.

A control dial, would be indeed innovative on a keyboard, and an unique feature. I would map it to Ctrl-[+] and Ctrl-[-] or, another nice idea, to Arrow-Down and Arrow-Up scrolling websites with this knob.

sorry for the rant but... people are sick!
don't read. sorry
Spoiler:
recently I'm receiving quite offensive comments and messages (here, on GH and reddit). Not on this thread, sorry if I'm posting this here, but it really makes me rethink my involvement in the community.
I always try to document all my projects, post tutorials, videos, organize GB, reply to all PMs and try to help everyone who asks, I even give stuff away for free... I do not even use the forums to push a service and every time I get asked I reply that I do not accept commission work. I do not want a medal, but not even get insulted.
I know I'm an asshole, I find difficult to deal with myself, but maybe I should simply login a couple of times a week just to see what's new in the keyboard world and post some of my customs once in a while.
Tomorrow I'm sure I will regret writing this message, but for now this is it!

Redditt is sick and always will be, when you make a bb so easily found and loosely moderated (by design) you get some unsavory characters. I think I speak for many that we love your designs and have zero issue with the way you have handled interactions in the various sites you post.

@matt3o Getting insulted is part of my job. Recently someone told me "get cancer!", and I replied, "no, thanks, I have a cat". So, it takes both sides for an insult to have effect, one person that insults, and the other person, who is getting upset. Maybe you take some dorks too serious.

Not all opinions are equal. There's a lot of tosspots out there, and no talking to over the Internet will sort them out. Some things still need a bop on the nose!

I do not take the insult. I simply lose motivation.

I love your design, you gave me motivation to make my own pcb, i love your group buy, you make me lose a lot of money with the granite set. I love DT, always interesting stuff to read on this forum and nice people. This is only the beginning of great community projects from european people, i want to see what will happen next.

Look at it that way: All your tremendous contributions to the community inevitably lead to so many people attracted to your projects that sooner or later there always will be an unthankful or rude minority articulating themselves.
Too bad that voicing ones opinion in anger or disappointment happens more often impulsively than the many times I am sure countless people admire all your efforts silently!
So heads up, and thank you for all your works and willingness to share and aide, keep it up, Matteo!
