I like that quite a bit.
That gives me a really good idea!
Ooh, the suspense. I'll be sure to tune in next week.
I went overboard and tried out various ideas, some more succesful than others.

Damn the R5a kits are so much more expensive than R5. On R5a you need two separate kits to make one, any ideas why?
R5 : HONEY/ERGO/RED (ErgoDox red kit | $55).
R5a: HONEYB/ERGOBASE/RED (Ergo base red kit | $49) + HONEYB/ERGOALPHA/RED (Ergo ALPHA red kit | $45)

I think the kits are split for maximum flexibility, the options are even wider this time!
The costs I think are down to volume - both number of keys and scale of $$$. Hopefully there's some MOQ shortfall in there

And don't forget the winter sale, 25% rebate on payments until Tuesday.

This is what I'd like to order, but I'm going to wait until kit prices are locked (I don't want to prepay and maybe get refund if more people jump on)
Code: Select all
HONEYB/TKL/BLUE
HONEYB/MODBASE100/BLUE
HONEYB/MODEXTRA100/BLUE
HONEYB/CURSYM/BLUE
HONEYB/NUMPAD/SPH
HONEYB/NUMPAD/BLUE
HONEYB/SPACE625/BLUE
HONEYB/SPACE700/BLUE

Ah, but doesn't the 25% discount end tomorrow? (as much as a 7bit deadline ever "ends")

Indeed. But that 25% promotion is just to get more people in, while prices are way higher than 125%. Round 5A's current pricelist is quite excruciating!
It's a balance of gambles. "Are my kits likely to come down much?"

It's good that you can get them split, but on R5 the entire ergodox set was $55. On R5a the two pieces together come to $94.
Will the price drop only if more people put an order in?

How does the 25% off work?
I order my set HONEYB/ERGOBASE/RED + HONEYB/ERGOALPHA/RED. Let's assume for arguments sake it totals $100.
%25 off = $75. Now if the price drops $10, is that before or after the 25%?
Would it be $100, drops $10 = $90 - 25% = 67.5
Or
Would it be $100 - 25% = $75 - $10 = $65
It's insignificant for me but I thought it might be useful for others.

You pay $75 and get a "deposit" of $100 for that. If the caps you ordered cost $100, you have a balance of $0. If the price of your sets drops to $90, you have a balance of +$10 that you can spend on more caps, or you can get a refund.
I'm not sure but I figure that if you choose the refund you would get $7.50 (75% of +$10).

The following payments have been received for this group buy:
mr_goat123, mtl, 1111000, larryniven, BrewingHeavyWeather, nikonf5
Has It Shipped?
If your payment came via PayPal, your invoice has been marked as shipped to keep them from locking up the PayPal account. Keep checking this thread for the actual ship date(s).
Additionally, note that the address on your Paypal notifications/notes are not necessarily the addresses 7bit will ship your order to, he ships to the address on your invoice.
Questions?
Either ask in this thread, or
PM 7bit.

Just a quick note that payment has been received by facetsesame. I goofed and didn't record his payment properly in my records. Thankfully, he followed up with me, I found the error and submitted his payment properly to 7bit.
Went ahead and double checked my records to make sure I didn't drop the ball with someone else, but everything looks good. *whew*
Thank you for your patience facetsesame!

Ordered my Round 5b as well. Procrastination FTW.
Already I have now noticed that I forgot to add more 6.25 spacebars and a duck kit or 2...

Don't forget the spacebars! ABS ones especially. You want to have something pristine set aside for pictures!
scottc wrote: I've finally ordered a set of sphericals! Naturally, I'm glad I waited for the purple and cream ones. So excited!
Just the one? We'll see!
Related: with all the new colours, I'm having to assess just what it's worth to be able to say "I ordered all of them". I've got a lonely 6.25u "Violett" spacebar here, which was apparently an option in the too-crazy-to-possibly-understand Round 4 itself. Trying to convince myself I don't like the colour…

I had written the color off at first, when used with the Cream alphas. Not really a fan. But then Facet had to post that awesome combo of black and violet. Too many awesome colors!

Neither! You buy six keyboard's worth of keycaps.

On a more serious note, I think I'll hold off until the prices stabilize. I'm pretty tapped thanks to recent car maintenance.

Then we would have to adhere to FIRM DEADLINES....
and that, according to 7bit, is the 8th sin...
The mere declaration of one causes 7bot to go into kernel panic...

There's a significant error in it - the cream nav keys aren't available.
Only alpha num row keys (including international options) are available for row 1 in cream - or blanks. White could work... As for black and VIOLETT, knock yourself out, there's a full compliment of everything available (yes, that's exactly what you're worried about... me too...)

Hi! The Round 5 buy, 7bit's bot system (and this topic) predate the creation of SP's PMK group buy system. With everything already in place to run Round 5a/HONEYB, and the ability to pair up new kits with existing leftovers (not to mention MX switches and everything else 7bit has in stock), it seems like a natural fit.
Putting the buy on SP's website would mean much less flexibility in what is still an evolving buy (we haven't defined the FUNCTION kit's legends yet!), ties everyone in to PayPal and standard shipping rates, and imposes a PayPal-led ordering deadline of a month.

Get the function set!

Speaking of which, where are all the suggestions for legends? Don't let me suggest row 4 keys SHIF and T...

I suspect the overlap of interests required to make the AFRO BEAT key consists of just one person on this particular planet! (Goes well with FUNK.)
Anyway, that's my "last ever, no really, LAST!" Round 5 payment in before the 25% thingmabob evaporates. Strange, why am I getting such a sense of déjà vu?

Hey guys, I noticed on the "HONEYB/CONTROL175/RED" set link
http://deskthority.net/w/images/9/91/HO ... 75_RED.png we get two Control keys for $5. Is there a way to request only one?

7bit won't split the kits, but you could split it with someone, or just trade or sell it afterwards.
Looking at the Round 5 leftovers, they look to still be available separately:
HONEY/CAPS175/RED (CAPS LOCK key 1.75 units | $2)
HONEY/CAPS175S/RED (CAPS LOCK key 1.75 units, step | $5)
As you can see, if you want the stepped key, the Round 5a HONEYB/CONTROL175/RED kit is better value.
