Yep, I changed my mind.
I made the seller an offer and the seller accepted it.
If I ever get some time I'll re-index my collection and place some more items up for sale. Once I get good photos of a keyboard - and certainly after I get it working over USB - I'm likely to sell it if it doesn't end up in my rotation.
SL89 suggested on IRC a little while ago that I start keeping my own blog or similar to document my collection. I should really work on this. As times goes on I'd like to pass more items along.
Just - I'm going to need to cut back a little on this awesome hobby. With two kids in the house and now that I'm working again time is quite precious. I have some real gems of boards to share with all of you, eventually.

The package looks awfull, at one site open.
I hear loose caps, they fall out of the hole in the package.
Some caps from the ml Keyboard are missing also some caps from the wacom thing.
I hope there are all caps in the package.
The the Wacom thing, about 60% of it is out of metall, but DPD get it to break the 40% plastic multible times.
I'am pissed.
When I'am calm downed I make a own thread and post some pictures.
The Wacom thing has cherry mx clear switches inside.

I wish carriers were smart enough to refuse incompetently wrapped goods. But they are not. They will hurl it around and smash it up regardless. I don't blame them for ignoring idiotic labels "plz don't smash!" though. This is the sender's fault. He overestimates carriers, and underestimates you! "It's just a junky old keyboard. Good job it wasn't new!"

Yes absolutely right. And if you bought it over eBay there is still the feedback. You could even report it to eBay. The bottom line is you did not get the item the way it was sold to you. Plus we just had that postal strike so those guys are even more stressed than usual.

I must disagree most strongly with this line of thinking.
A conscientious seller who packages an item carefully and addresses it accurately with the address that the buyer provided has fulfilled his obligations in every way that is humanly possible.
I consider it absolutely outrageous and unconscionable that ebay holds sellers hostage to whatever takes place while the package is in the care and protection of the carrier.
Bad packing is one issue, but carelessness or neglect in the hands of a carrier is not anything that a seller can control.
Personally, I believe that "ownership" of something that I sell has shifted from seller (me) to buyer as soon as it leaves my hands because I will never see it again and have absolutely no control over it from that point forward.

Wrapping a large keyboard in bubble wrap without any box is not consious packaging fohat!

I carefully qualified my response, twice, to include proper packaging as a fundamental obligation of a seller.
My objection was to the notion that a seller should be held hostage to the behavior of the carrier.

No one is to be held "hostage". But no one can rely on the carrier to be gentle in their handling. They're supposed to handle with care, but do you really think they do so all the time? So what's the solution? Good packaging!

Living in the city where UPS is headquartered, I've heard many people who used to work there who couldn't care any less about packaging. Careful handling is the exception, not the rule. I also do not like that sellers are responsible but that is why we have insurance on packages - I've never been denied insurance with proper documentation.

Yeah I've had eBay come through with their PayPal insurance. One of the few good aspects of PayPal.

There is little doubt that ebay would side with the buyer and force the seller to "eat" the loss of an item damaged in transit, and getting money out of a carrier is like pulling teeth from a live crocodile.
I have only tried to make a claim under "shipping insurance" a couple of times, and was always refused due to some technicality (items that I bought, not sold).
I do think that a Geekhacker made a successful claim a few years ago, on a keyboard I sold him that was damaged by the Post Office, but can't remember for sure.
PS - I sold nearly a thousand LPs on ebay, 10 years ago, all over the world, and never had one reported as broken, so I know the importance of packaging.

I've always had USPS come through. I thoroughly package my stuff but accidents can and do happen.
Also, it provides you a secondary level of fraud protection as well. I sold an Alienware laptop a couple of years ago and the buyer claimed that it arrived broken and that he had to pay $200 to replace it. I kept asking for pictures and got nothing. He then opened a claim on me. After informing him that it was insured for the full value, he suddenly left negative feedback and stopped contacting me back.

I don't know how UPS does it, but often here if a package has a dent in it you are given the chance to refuse it. If there is a dent in the packaging, it's the handler's fault, if the item is broken without the packaging being visibly damaged, it's the seller's fault.

Sure, but most carriers just knock and leave the package unless it is shipped signature-required or over a specific dollar amount.

I've only ever filed two USPS insurance claims and both were paid promptly.
I ship almost exclusively FedEx within the US and use USPS outside the US. I have sent keyboards to at least six different countries now (US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland). I've only had one issue (it is well documented on the Keypocalypse sale thread).
As a seller here on the forum I go further than most to guarantee satisfaction. Not to disagree with fohat's statement of seller responsibilities per se: what fohat describes are perhaps the minimum responsibilities of a competent seller. Some sellers - myself included to some extent - will self insure to offer a higher level of service.

With caps like that: nope. It doesn't look like a Micro Switch board at all. (
My Honeywell is Micro Switch branded inside. They were likely a subsidiary or at least close partner of Honeywell's.) Nothing about this board looks like Hall effect.
Look at the date: 1991. There's a chance it's a mech of some sort, but far from guaranteed. Could just be a dome. It's in good shape though. Maybe worth a punt.

Given the year and the country of fabrication that Honeywell board is very likely either foam-and-foil or rubber dome.
