Out-of-curiosity, which boards are people buying this set for (as we are talking MX here)?
I was going to get a set for a custom board I had planned! Mostly for the short backspace, though, as the modifier layout is totally different.

I just do it:
:o

1x FUNCTION plus 1x META in all kits that contained 2x META (row 3, 1.5 units).

Because it is mandatory to read this thread for any participant, I will see if there are any complaints.

hi,

i'm a bit of a noob at this. Basically i'm planning to contruct my own keyboard soon with a custom layout (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/# ... fa4f803b82 there are 2 slightly different layouts and i haven't decided which one to go for yet). I need keys with rounded tops for the bottom row, specifically:

3u space bar
4u space bar
1.5u modifier x2
1u modifier x2

I can source the other keycaps readily so it's only these ones I'm trying to track down. But I need to know, are the keycaps featured in the round 5 'spacebar' section rounded? Or are they just normal profile keys which will be sharp on my poor thumb haha.

Also the other keycaps on the board will likely be DCS. Will this look horrible mixed with the bottom row keys from round 5?

Thanks for any and all assistance :D

Yes, all spacebars have a rounded profile, as shown on Signature Plastics' profile diagrams:

Hmm...someone mentioned earlier that only spacebars 4u and larger had the rounded profile.

7bit did indeed. Round space bars are only 4u and above. All smaller ones are normal row 3 caps. Including all mods.

If you want a DCS keyboard, go full DCS. These are huge compared to them.

Indeed, DCS and SA don't match up at all.

This is a 2 unit space bar from the (same profile) Round 4 SPH:

Not round. And they really are as tall as they look. Which is why I love them!

Those keys look so good. Can't wait for this round to ship!

Would've been even better when there were blue ones again.

Ok, thanks guys. I'm not sure where I can find rounded small space bars then. I know JIS space bars are like that but I don't know anyone in Japan...

Might order the 4u one then, even if it looks a bit weird next to the other keycaps at least it's better than no space bar :). I would be happy with a full set from round 5 but unfortunately don't have the money for it atm.

Muirium, what is that contraption (the OneHand)? Is it an operating input device?

If so, how do I get one and which keycaps do I need to populate it ;-)

PJE's creation:

http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/oneh ... t6617.html

He sent me the PCB for free some months ago. It's a work in progress, but the hardware is simple enough: add one Teensy 2, 18 MX switches, and 16 x single and 2 x 2 unit caps. Whatever profile you like. Stabs aren't mandatory, but the PCB has mounts for a pair of Cherry's.

I didn't want to appear unappreciative towards 7bit in my earlier post, I understand that it's A LOT of work organizing such a group buy so thanks a lot 7bit!

It's just that I fell in love with those white on blues and when I saw them elsewhere on the internet, they make me come here and participate in Round 5.

Nevertheless, I'm very confident that with the keycaps from this round there are plenty of great keyboards to be made! ;)

Just curious if anyone who has already used these SA caps has had similar problems with them being really tight??

I have a feeling I just wasted over $500 :?

I've put them on a few boards now, and I've not had any problems. Don't know what was up with that guy's stabs, but my Cherry stabbed Ducky's fine with Round 4 SPH.

what switches were you using?

I'll be using either clears or tactile greys

I know there was a run of DSA caps in the past where SP had some tooling that wasn't quite right and they were tighter than normal and broke stems off...hopefully that isn't the case with any of the SA tooling

Greens, blacks, blues and reds. I've not found any difference in the fit of their stems.

Reminds me of the Scarface alu sets. There was one problem with them: it was a tight fit, and when you remove them, it could scratch the stems, because alu is stronger than plastic. So the fix the Koreans applied was to cut a small square of sticky tape, and apply it to to cross shaped stem before putting on the keycap. It's a cheap lubricant trick. The thin layer of plastic and coating that remains when you press the keycap on, makes it much easier to pull off the keycap later without damage.

I don't have any such issues. But, the only key on my Tipro that has stabilisers, is the 4 units space bar.

7bit, I've had to cut my order down a little as I'm selling some of my keyboards... money problems, you know.

How can I go about getting the difference refunded? It's not urgent so long as I do get it back, and I understand I'll lose Paypal fees etc.

Oh, and just to confirm, the UP, DOWN, LEFT and RIGHT keys in the TKL kits are all R3, yes? I'm putting them all on the same row so I don't want them to have different profiles!

Thanks!

Yes, they are row 3.
