We are going to need a bottom as well. The extra distance between the f key row and number key row makes the plate taller. So the bottom plates we all have won't fit
RoostrC0gburn wrote:OK everyone, I am working on a possible solution for everyone with a Phantom PCB. Keysmasher has helped design a plate that is compatible with the Phantom PCB. I am working with a local fab shop to get them made. Not sure what the price will be at this point. I am definitely getting one for myself, and probably a couple more for friends. Sounds like keysmasher wants one too.

I just wanted to offer this to anyone else who got hosed, and get an idea for how many would be interested. I will only have the top plates made. These will be 16 gauge 316 stainless plates. Let me know if you want one - please no PMs, just post up in the thread

+1 for the phantom compatible plate set

local shop only has waterjet... too expensive for us. I sent the design out to a few other shops in the area who have laser CNC capabilities. Will have multiple quotes early next week. I have also asked for pricing for materials and finish treatments.

I am starting to think we need to think we need to open this up / re-run the group buy. Unless we get some significant interest (50+ sets) I expect many people to shy away from having this made in the states. This being the case, why not bundle PCBs, LEDs, diodes, etc.?

Is anyone in favor for making this a Phantom DIY kit group buy? I might make an IC on geekhack to gauge interest...

Did you see LeandreN's reply a few posts back? He was offering to have it done again with the correct dimensions if the local costs were too high.

right. that's why i sent the design to a few other shops. laser cutting is typically faster and therefore cheaper for parts like these. we'll find out prices next week.

in the meantime, i would appreciate any feedback people might have about re-running this group buy as a bundle. the bundle could include: plates, standoffs, screws, phantom pcb, teensy, diodes, maybe even switches?

I have all the parts. I got them in anticipation of the plates. The kit will be fine as long as separate parts can also be purchased.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. Each part will probably have it's own MOQ, though.

I have a source for Gaterons at about .19-23 per, if you can work without an ETA.

got quotes today. the following prices are for two (2) plates - top and bottom. the plates will fit the phantom pcb. i cannot guarantee they will fit any other pcb. the price also includes two options for finish: "dual action sander" or "grain". DAS will be more of a shiny finish, but not a mirror shine. Grain is more of a "brushed" look. PRICES DO NOT INCLUDE SHIPPING.

SS Plates: $41.50
Aluminum: $36.50

PLEASE NOTE if you choose aluminum, they will not be anodized. i highly suggest anodizing aluminum plate, as it will eventually oxidize.

I have not seen many responses to my posts, but there has been much lurking. I have no real gauge at this point of what the interest is, so I am setting MOQ at 10 orders. since this is not my group buy, and i am only doing this as a service to my fellow enthusiasts, i am not adding any other costs for my time.

That's a great price. Hope you guys get this going again!

Do you want me to/should someone post this to reddit? I think a few people would be interested in a phantom case that doesn't cost an arm and a leg

I suggest making a new GB thread and then post it. I can do it if you want.

Hey 'yall, I thought I'd post a few photos of my build from this group buy. I was planning on a phantom build, but figures that it was a great time to try handwiring. I think it came out great!

On another note: I'm not still interested in a phantom case, so if anyone has something laying around let me know!

looks good. I also like the middle layer. Could you give us some more infos about that? do you have pics of the handwiring?

I'd be in for a SS Grain, anybody know of a good source of middle layers? studyourheart's is gorgeous, something like that would be perfect.

Edit: Before I get too excited, will this fit a Gons NerD TKL v2?

A few people I this thread have reported that it fits the nerd tkl pcb. I don't have one to confirm. If anyone is interested in buying the plate set from this run, pm me.

i think axtran was looking for a set. contact him through geekhack or reddit

Meh, either way I'll take a set of plates in SS Grain. If it doesn't work with a Gons I guess I'll just have to make another one with a Phantom.

So I'm a bit new to all this, how do I go about actually placing the order and taking part in the GB?
