Your envelope arrived on friday, and I had some time today to Soarer-mod my other Cherry G80-3k:

For anybody else tuning in, I used the USB cable's colors: if you have the keyboard on your lap, the original connector uses black | green | white | red | black (why it has black twice is beyond my understanding - they're connected).
On the Teensy side, my Cherry falling back to PS/2 mode has white as data -> PD0, green as clock -> PD1. Black and red connect to ground and Vcc as usual.
Thanks again for your excellent service!

One is the ground, the other is the shield of the cable (the metal braiding around the wires), and they are connected so the shield can shield!

Correct. Tie those together! (Actually, what I do with my external boxed Soarer converter is keep the shielding chain connected all the way from the host's USB cable to the keyboard's AT/XT/terminal lead, using the metal box itself as a conductor. That way, grounding works from end to end, as it should.)
Glad to see these Teensies getting straight into use. I've a few crafty ideas for my own as well, but haven't even gotten started yet.
