Just use your ears. If it is a click and a little spring ringing, it is a white, if not it is a clear.

I am brand new to Deskthority, so forgive my ignorance here.

I just discovered this forum on the last day accepting orders, lucky me. However, when I post an order as a PM to CherryMX, the message sits in my outbox, but is not shown as sent.

Is there a nightly process that scrapes users' outboxes and sends the PMs? Is there something I need to do to get it out of my outbox?

I just don't wanna miss out on a chance to take advantage of the great pricing in this GB.

That's normal, the PM will sitting in your outbox forever when communicating with the bot.

All that worrying for nothing, I guess.

Thanks for the rapid response though 7bit!

My order shipped out on Jan 9, 2014 but I haven't received it yet. I hope I receive it soon; my ErgoDox kit from Massdrop is supposed to arrive on Tuesday, Feb 4. Hopefully, it will arrive by Friday so I can start putting it together next weekend.

Thank you for doing this, 7bit. This is very nice of you.

Are there any greys left? If so, I will add three of them to my order. Also, seen that the blacks aren't selling well, when do you expect them to be in stock, 7bit?

Any status on order #0508? I paid on the 23rd, and they were in-stock, but I haven't heard about shipping yet.

Thanks!

I tried adding some greys, but received a invoice telling me I paid everything (I'm pretty sure I typed the change correctly), and no greys where added, how come?

Greys are sold out.

BTW:
I will pack and ship some orders today.

Hi 7bit,
I stupidly ordered PCB mount switches when what I needed was plate mount ones. I have already sent the payment but would it be possible to change the switches ordered?

You're probably fine. PCB mount == plate mount + two plastic prongs on the underside. You can clip them off if you like. But you might not even need to.

Swapped out the spacebar on my mx blue ducky yellow edition tkl for a lubed red. WOW they are amazing!

Posted: 13 Feb 2014, 19:52
by Muirium
How did you do that, then? They're plate mounted.

Simple case dismantle... Desolder, resolder led and switch. In fact at the moment it is all blues except green caps and enter, red lubed space, lubed brown wasd. Eventually all the alphas will become lubed browns as will the arrow keys. The browns are donated from my poker 2 which has been dismantled. I have springs and stickers on their way for the stock of clears I got from 7bit- ergo clear poker time. Waiting for a plate to be made before it goes back together again so I don't have to desolder it again in the future if I fancy a different switch arrangement ... Takes long time without a dedicated station and a handheld sucker instead.

I've heard that people can do this — remove individual plate mounted switches — but it confuses me how you actually do it. The only time I've desoldered plate mount switches from a PCB, I did the whole lot. What's the trick to get at them one at a time?

No trick, the switch comes out almost "by itself" from the plate, once you desolder its legs.

yeh, what laser said.

I tend to not bother getting all the solder out for the LED's though. I apply heat to the LED legs then pull the LED out as the solder is molten. Then I heat the solder on the switch pins and suck it up (this can take a few attempts, easiest way I found was to add a shit load of solder to the joint and suck it all up). Then loosen switch from plate with screwdriver. If it doesn't quite come out (tiny bit of solder holding it in) then press on the backside middle plastic piece of switch in the PCB slot and apply heat to the switch pins...that way when the tiny bit goes molten then pressure is being applied to the switch to pop it out.

Oh and then you pop the new switch back into the plate.....add solder to the switch pins and melt. Then for the LED, I add a little bit of solder to the LED PCB joints then apply heat to both pins at once (as they are close together) and push the LED through the switch and back in position whilst the solder is molten. Easy Peasy :)

Intriguing! I must give it a shot sometime. Thanks.

My Shine 3 (the yellow one, just like Farty's) is already MX red throughout. My first board with those switches. Think I made a good choice with it, but for the space bar. Being a spring buckler, I want something tougher down there for my thumbs. And I've got a good number of MX blacks… maybe worth a lube and see!

Haha "Farty's." That's interesting you're going for black spacebar. I mainly changed mine to red for spamability in Battlefield etc. Though I have noticed a trend that heavier switches are generally sought after on the spacebar. Is there something wrong with me ? xD

Might need a few more reds from 7bit now that I have fallen in love with them. Just the excuse I needed to get in on the new clear case ones too!
