For anyone in the Massachusetts area, this seems like a decent deal. Seller might be willing to just sell the keyboard given that the rest of it is not currently working. Likely a simple fix from the description of the fault.

$200. Hmm. It's sort-of a TKL.
I do like that it has a full-size backspace, BAE, and the shift keys are both OK sized. A delete key immediately to the left of the spacebar and an insert key to the left of that is probably not a good design idea, tho.

Yeah, but given the condition of the switches and the housing and so on, it definitely needs a thorough touch-up. But still, very fair price! Have too many Focus boards already, otherwise I'd have already snatched it

I'm not here to hike the price though, I figure anyone interested will have already spotted it and be bidding accordingly.
First of all I stopped by to thank everyone who contributes to the fourm and Wiki. After the rather surprising initial bidding a potential buyer clued me into why, and I've spent far too much time since reading about keyboards, switches, caps, etc to add to my already eclectic knowledge of various things. I really thought it was just another item I'd held on to for far too long, and was being irrationally optimistic that anyone would want it rather than it being part of my next trip to the recycling centre. Hopefully someone with as much interest as is shown here will end up owning it - although I'm fearful that everything except the caps may still head to landfill
.
Secondly, in return for that, I'd like to offer a 10% discount on final price to any established forum member who buys it and PMs me here (preferably, not sure what eBay policy is on that sort of messaging...) to say they have done so before checkout. Hopefully I'll be able to make that work somehow using a direct PayPal payment, since AIUI I can't apply a random 10% reduction to an invoice. BTW, I can't recall what the shipping details on the listing are, but always happy to try and work something out for UK or overseas buyers. If you just want the caps that'll be easier, and I may then refurb the board with some "lesser" caps
.
And finally, I already added a brief description of the product code to the relevant Wiki page. I'm planning to get a couple of better pics to add there. If anyone want me to capture any extra info before it leaves me let me know.
And I now wish I'd cleaned it up before listing

Usually posting one's own eBay listings in this thread is quite frowned at (especally by me

That's a quirky item. I quite often look at "Sellers Other Items" in case there is something I might use, and it's quirky there too - user-produced prison shanks? First time I've seen one on eBay...
It may be interesting that all the alpha-numeric keys are binary bases: 1, 2, 4, 8.
I have a few theories for the keyboard (which is faulty by the way - several keys are mounted upside down):
- It's some form of prototype to building around
- A labelled membrane or other layer sits above it
- The user is a touch typist or blind, so specific keys don't matter
- It was made by filching pocketfuls of keys from the factory (for above user)
- It's from the USSR nuclear launch system. Everyone knows the code is 4284, but this is the final protection against malicious launch
- It's a part of the experiment where they checked whether an infinite number of monkeys really could retype the works of Shakespeare. They were Russian monkeys so it was unnecessary to give them a UK keyboard.

That would not be a problem if you had not received any bids yet. Once at least one valid bid has been placed on an item then ebay considers that a binding contract for sale has been established.
You might be able to claim that the item was "no longer available" or that you had discovered a problem with it, but that is certainly viewed as "bad behavior" on ebay, at the minimum, even though you could probably get away with it.

I will just use this entry since it is already here.
Generally the rationale for offering direct (ie off-ebay) sales to fellow members is to avoid the fee burdens that ebay inflicts - 10% to ebay + 3% to Paypal (if some other payment scheme is employed).
In the past I have given rebates and discounts to people who bought from me on ebay in the form of cash or extra merchandise in the box or by simply sending money to them via Paypal as a personal gift, but to pay ebay its full tribute and then give a rebate to a customer is costing your bottom line.

Yes, understood and I've had to do some of those things before because they were true. AIUI if the postage cost was £20 I could have reduced that to create an effective discount. If push comes to shove I can stick £ / EUR notes in the package.

I came across this interesting and very pricey Model M. It seems to be a square badge variant from the 90s made by Lexmark. I didn’t think they had square badge versions after the 80s. As far as I can tell it’s still a regular model M so I don’t think I would be willing to shell out $1000 for it.
