and the case will look like this (disregard the decorations, the side will be pretty much flat)

there might be some variants in the layout (ISO/ANSI etc) depending on demand.
what is the size of the right shift key?

1.75u, it's the only non standard key in the layout.

@matt3o , how are the sides held in place for that case?

It is bent, and soldered.

matt3o: "The bent one is probably the best option. The price for few pieces is higher than I wished but still reasonable. 10-15 prototypes should go around €50 each. That would include: aluminum plate, steel case, welding, sanding to refine the weld points."

So this is what the layout will should look like, wonderful :-)

with the difference that it doesn't cost $250

$250? What are we, peasants? It costs $400, plus import taxes. Ridiculous.

Go on matt3o, you are doing a fantastic job.

Wooh, we didn't factor in shipping did we? That is probably about $50-70 for EMS from Korea + inport taxes ;)

Source for the price?

if you build it yourself it should be around $250+shipping I seem to recall (without switches and keycaps).

Will it support ISO initially, or will that be in a later batch?
Also will there ever be a 78 or 109 key model?

Posted: 12 Feb 2015, 23:35
by matt3o
yes, ISO will be supported. I'm also working on the same layout + function row

Awesome, looking forward to it :)

Oh yes! I was waiting for a bigger layout :)

All compatible layouts (you can mix and match them of course)

Pcb or hand wiring?

actually working on the PCB

Nice! A PCB really saves every builder a ton of effort.

(Interested in cooking up a little something with M84s and an NRF wireless module for me and Pyrelink while you're in the mood? That project's not dead, it's just sleepy!)

by scottc
I'm interested in that project once more, but the price of M84s has skyrocketed if I remember correctly!

On-topic: I'm very happy that a PCB is in the works. It's really the cherry on the cake (pun not intended).

You're welcome to join in. (As is anyone, if they can get the switches!) According to his pricelist, 7bit has enough M84's for one more board, and he's selling them for the same kind of price I remember getting mine:

M8CLEAR | 66 | 0.60|EUR|M84A-0100

Our design requires a 4u spacebar. It's essentially a wireless compact board designed for M84s and Round 5.

I must be thinking of the M7s or M9s or M5s or [...] that were much cheaper! I like the little switches, but I don't know if I like them that much...

Posted: 17 Feb 2015, 00:44
by Muirium
Yeah, 7bit has M5s and M9s all stockpiled up that he's long had priced to give away, as the demand's just not out there. The little M8s are a whole other story, as they're MX cap compatible. No need to give them the bum's rush!

Any new progress on the case or PCB?

by matt3o
the PCB is proceeding in two ways. A first batch will be based on teensy, 7bit is helping me on that. If everything goes well and there's enough interest we may move to a better integrated version with an onboard controller.

Unfortunately these things take time...

7bit is helping as in I should pester him for my own PCB design instead? He did a pretty good job with the HyperMicro, a bit cramped and confusing, but a solid first effort!

take all the time you need, this is DT after all, Round 5 has been going on for how many years?
