Welcome to the nightmare that is my regime! It's all quite accidental, honest…
I'm really more of a club guesser, than a club secretary. By nature!

I know I don't belong to the club and have a very low participation, but I'd like to chime in, if you don't mind.
I think I understand kbdfr's issue with this. One thing is for sure, you can't change What has been done, but there's something that can be done now to avoid issues in the future, that is, you can involve the whole club so this won't happens next time. Create a discussion to decide on a set of rules regarding this.
Either the club decides on requiring voting/discussion every time there's a request to use the design, or create a discussion and vote for a general rule on when and how to use these.
In any case, having a set of rules for this, since it belongs to the club, makes some sense.

If it's the Gabriele 100 model, no.
More info, as always,
in the wiki.

Hey everyone,
I'm looking for my first mech and need some advice.
I'd love to have a TKL with a small form factor, preferably because of no bezels like a Pok3r. Problem with the Pok3r is that I don't think I'm ready to lose my F-Row yet for gaming.
Kicker is I'd also love it to be ISO, at best ISO DE but I think I'm going to swap out the keycaps anyway so DE or not isn't that important.
Cherry on top would be a detachable USB-cable because I saw some beautiful custom made ones and want to throw my money at those people.
Edit: Forgot to mention the switches, whoops. Had a switch tester in hand, loved the clears but I'm flexible.
Hope someone has a hint in the right direction.

Thanks in advance

Got a question about following Deskthority related key:
Is this design free for use for community? If not who owns the rights?
Thanks in advance.
The deskthority logo was made by sixty for deskthority, and as all four co-founders of deskthority when it was privately owned, he transferred his part of private ownership to the club entity when deskthority turned into an official club owned by itself. As the chairman of this club, responsible for this technicality, I now rule to make this not too complicated until we rule the world and we'd have to truly worry about abuse of our logo, and let our open nature prevail: if you're an amateur enthusiast or small keyboard related business, and you want to make some keys, t-shirts, hats, whatever with the DT logo below a quantity of 500, go ahead. Just don't claim it's official without our approval. Above that, we want part of the gold!
In other words, at this point I don't think we should obsess about this above our keyboard obsession, which is what this club is really about - we should only worry about this kind of stuff if it would turn bigger. I think currently this freedom to use the logo just motivates people to make cool stuff and promotes this. If you're Logitech and want to make a million keyboards with our logo, to leach on our undisputed eliteness, it's a different story. If someone does something not respectable with our logo below a quantity of 500, we'll just shame them. My estimation is that a majority of club members agree with this assessment, so I shouldn't bother them with a direct vote, and take on my responsibility with this rule, but this is a democratic club so if you are a
club member, disagree, and want to overturn this rule,
start a vote.

I know it's just noise, but I agree with the above. It's all just part of playing nice with the other kids, if you'll pardon the expression.

Sounds like a fair and easy-to-use solution.

Oh mighty keyboard oracle. I seek a keyboard with the following:
* Cherry Brown Switches
* DIP switches so I can turn caps lock into CTRL, for I am old school like that
* standard ANSI layout
* discrete function key row - none of this FN + # key business
* discrete arrow keys - no FN bollocks
* either unprinted or stealth printed keycaps
Things I would prefer, but can live without:
* tenkeyless rather than full sized
* removable USB cable
Things I would prefer to not have:
* Backlighting - unless it's purely reactive to keypresses, and turn-offable
I await your wise judgment.

The closest I know of is the CM Stealth, but it doesn't have dip switches. I think it has everything else you want. If you're willing to buy keycaps separately, you might be able to find something else with dip switches, but the dip switches combined with the blank/side-printed keycaps are the limiting factors, I think. I probably know less than most everyone else here, though, so there is still hope for you.

I figured it was either the CM stealth or the filco ninja - i'll probably need to buy a cm stealth and do a keycap swap with something else. Thanks for confirming that i wasn't missing something.

You don't mean you'd buy a CM Stealth just for the keycaps, do you? You can definitely buy side-print keycaps. I bought some a while back, though I forget where I got them from. For what it's worth, I have a CM Stealth, too, and it's a solid keyboard. I just realized my Ducky G2 Pro TKL has dip switches (and it meets all of your criteria except the side-print). Both are fairly inexpensive keyboards, so if you can find the Ducky, and buy some side-print keycaps, you'd be good to go. Also, if it came to it, I might be persuaded to do a keycap swap, since I always like a good change of scenery now and then!

Yeah - this will probably result in some sort of frankenboard. I'll look into the ducky, or possibly some of the stuff i've seen on massdrop (just found out about that site yesterday), and then see about some side printed keys (i'd probably just stick with blanks, because i'm an egotist like that - but this one would be used at the office, and IT has already complained about other people with blank keycaps or non-standard layouts.)

IT can suck it! That would throw water on my party alright. Best of luck.

MassDrop has some issues, especially for those of us in Europe. They didn't win this prestigious award (by a landslide) for nothing…

Beware of the Zoll. (Der Zollamt?) Germany's ruthlessly efficient customs system. They will intercept your foreign imports and demand your cash. They aren't as bad as London's customs, which will charge you random additional fees quite often larger than the tax, but Der Zoll sees all. Much better to have lazy customs. The buggers are entitled to seize
things of next to no value. Let alone tasty keyboards!

Anyone know of any Alps-compatible switches or clones that are readily available with an LED cutout?

Nope. You could try contacting Matias, but I doubt they'll take individual orders.

Yeah I know Xiang Min makes some (they were used in the Ducky XM, FIlco Zero, and Matias Pro 2) but I can't figure out how to contact them (their website contact form pops up a window and doesn't do anything).

They tend to be linear-- the place where the tactile leaf lives has to be surrendered for the cutout.
The Matias "clear case" design is good enough-- just mount the LED next to the switch and let it shine through.
Posted: 06 Feb 2016, 08:29
by Blaise170
Linear is fine, but I need replacements, so Matias won't work for this case.

Keyboard Oracle! I beseech thee! I like cherry brown and other tactile feedback switches - will i like electro capactitative switches?

Which ones? Topre or Nopre?
Posted: 06 Feb 2016, 19:32
by Halvar
You might. Chances are you will. Don't follow the lure into the rabbit hole! Enjoy the light and subtle tactility of MX brown, maybe get some nice thick GMK key caps, stop worrying and lead a happy life in which the important things are important to you!
Oh. I guess it's too late, is it?
Posted: 06 Feb 2016, 19:48
by shreebles
If you will like them, it will not be because they are similar to brown.
Even the MX switch which in theory should be closest to Topre has little resemblance in actual practice.
No switch feels like Topre other than Topre. It's entirely a different technology.
If you want more of the same, stick with with Browns or get another MX Brown board.
I like to appreciate the differences and use both sometimes. And Topre isn't a one-way street - I enjoy some Cherry switches more than Topre switches. Especially for gaming. But I do have a (silenced) Novatouch and enjoy its quiet subtlety in the office.

I have read somewhere here (yes, hearsay), the RoyalKludge feels like really smooth browns. Maybe that is an option for you if you don't want to spend as much.
