I was serriously considering getting that SSK off TaoBao, then I remembered I have no money
Still, TaoBao is probably the best place to get SSKs, and from what I've heard, shipping isn't
too bad ($50ish).

I've never shopped there myself, we do have several people here who have experience with TaoBao, seems like a lot of "rarer" stuff does show up there for a decent price by our standards.

I think the big issue with Taobao is that you need to have some sort of service to buy it and ship it from China to you, which can drive up costs.
Personally, I'm intrigued but I have absolutely no idea what queries to use to get vintage keyboards to pop up in search results, given that I don't speak Mandarin.

Because a ton of other stuff is probably also called "Focus 9000". You need to add "keyboard" or the proper Mandarin term for keyboard which I forgot.

I've been trying "键盘" which Google Translate informs me is "keyboard." It seems to be getting more on-track results, now I just need to figure out what denotes "vintage" in Mandarin to further filter out all the bling gamer boards.

In German though.

guk sent me that ages ago, he hasn't been around much lately. guk used to rule this thread. I know he did some shopping at TaoBao.

I think another potential issue some buyers might run into with TaoBao is that many of their items are likely to be out of stock; iirc, listings aren't really updated and inventory numbers are inflated. I wouldn't be surprised if that SSK and/or those Industrial Model Ms weren't in stock.

Yeah, I've actually heard about that before. I think E3E nabbed a really impressive Monterey board off Taobao a while back and the seller just left the listing up for the, um, "prestige" I guess?

I think it's to try to get potential buyers to purchase other stuff from a seller or whatever. I've tried getting an SSK on TaoBao (not that particular one) through an agent, but no luck.

Is this a frankenboard? I thought silver label were only early models - 1390120 and 1390131. This looks like someone took a 1390120 and put in a Unicomp old classic 104 plate.

Old Ms have a notch for the recess where the windows keys SHOULD be though, so they'd have had to saw that off. Also, 1994 preceded the windows key. And it's a UK model with ANSI layout. Bizarre Oo .

I think that one is a rubber dome version for some reason. I could be horribly wrong.
Also, I can verify that the website I posted the other day is active. The seller replied to one of my emails. We'll see how long it takes for the keyboard with the cool Asian legends to arrive...
