If you are going to design a dyesub set, avoid blue.
Exactly! Blue Sun in the Nerdom Kit was surprisingly pale in color, so the same could easily be the case for the Int kits.

By hard, you mean it doesn't print well, or sharp or dark?
green is a composite of blue so it might have the same issues. Bottom line: go red.
as far as I understand they just need more time to print blue, nothing to do with quality or sharpness.

Go red. Noted! Granite round 2 will have blood red secondary legends, awesome!

Bah, glad I got in on Round 1, then. Down with ROY, GBIV for the win!

It's just a matter of few more days (not weeks). Not a big deal but SP will ship the orders without the intl kits first.

While I like red font, I think blue Alt Gr legends is a better choice as it matches the blue Alt key in the RGB kits (SPOILER, I plan on only using a single blue Alt key from my RGB kit)

Text legends, are they?

Yes, I went for text modifiers, if that is what you asked.

It is. (Oh well.)
Although, actually… I forget that my DSA Dolch (still waiting in America) could use some better mods. Hmm…

So who's backing out of this so I can buy them out? :3

I asked SP to throw in my order every print proof they had

hopefully I'll have some some spares, doubtfully a full set, but maybe some keys here and there

I already have a granite set off a G83, but I'll have to mod them to be MX compatable - but I can do the work, so it's all good

This is the best looking keyset I've ever seen.
Just a note, matt3o, I'd sign up for the round 2 that you want to do in a heart beat. And might buy extra keys for this keyset if available and depending on what keys are left over. Just let me know.

I believe I received one PM each day since the GB closed. All of them asking for a round 2.
I'm pretty much convinced that we need more granite.
What I'm thinking for round 2:
1) some revised symbols
2) new nerdom kit
3) a UK kit alone
4) no blanks
5) maybe a full ergodox kit (so you don't have to buy base kit + ergodox)
6) no orange nor yellow

I'd be quite sad if there wasn't a blank kit =[

Blanks struggled last time. But they were made anyway, as dyesub eats blanks. Anyway, the other ideas are quite reasonable.
So I'll add an unreasonable request: a new bonus alpha set! Round 1 had Cyrillic. Round 2 needs…?
(My vote's for Greek, obviously.)

Ahh interesting. I could seem them struggling. I could handle labeled keycaps I guess if they look as great as the round 1. So disregard my sadness, matt3o =]
What do you mean by "dyesub eats blanks"? I'm not too familiar with dyesubs in general.

Dye sublimation caps are made from blank PBT caps. First SP molds all the plastic into blank caps. Then the ones for blank kits are set aside and the rest are put in the oven with dye, which sinks into them with time and heat. It's cheaper just to make blanks, but blanks aren't as popular as all these legends…
Doubleshot ABS caps are a different story. The legend is formed in the cap when the plastic itself is still molten. They are literally two "shots" of plastic.

7) Japanese kit
@napalmbrain, phase 1: make a blank key, phase 2: sublimate it.

Mmm… I could totally buy Japanese. With JIS mods and tiny space bar!

Cool. Thanks for the info, guys.
Regardless, I can't wait for round 2 and have PayPal already loaded for it. Any idea when you'd like to do it? A few months? Half a year? A year?
Posted: 19 Jun 2014, 17:28
by matt3o
unfortunately, we don't have the mold for tiny spacebar

Ack. Does SP make caps for Japanese keyboards at all? Even ISO seems to be a lot of bother for them…

No ETA. Round 1 has to reach all of its buyer first. Then I want to see people's reaction to it. Based on that we'll decide. More than a couple of months, less than one year I'd say
Muirium wrote:Ack. Does SP make caps for Japanese keyboards at all? Even ISO seems to be a lot of bother for them…
I mean that we do not have PBT mold for them. In ABS something's available.

So what you're saying is that it will probably be run before Round 5 arrives?

LOL! That's pretty easy to estimate

If there will be a 2nd round we need a blue ISO-Enter!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we need Icons in yellow and orange for Windows- and Menu-key!!!

Good luck with those ideas!
