The photo is very dark, but I would guess that it might be a Model M. Clever how they obliterated the important part of the label.

That looks like a yellowed ABS spacebar, which I know that Greenock used in the late-1990s, but I would not have thought that it would have been there as early as 1990.

I think its a model m, because on the second picture you can see he wrote the missing number on a paper, laying near to the original label.

I'm extremely confident that it's an M. I've never seen an F122 with a plastic back; they've always had an exposed metal backplate.

It's got a beige backplate, that should make it an M right?

Yeah, pretty sure it's a M too. Wrote my post a bit quickly.

Cyclopean whites! And an amusing serial number. You'll be typing on an 'board with a label that says AFK. How's that for contradictory?

With Cherry profile caps too and an awesome layout? Someone buy this now. I would, but I'm broke.

I thought about it, actually ended up buying it so I can run a Space Invaders tour soon over on geekhack. 8-)

I previously had a full size board with the browns, I loved the clicky green spacebar switch, and thought the browns were okay. I don't think the whites are as highly regarded as black, but nonetheless it's not your everyday switch

I was on the verge of buying it but decided against it. Still not sure how I feel about my decision. I think I'm okay with it. Neat keyboard for sure.

It’s not Cherry profile. These are standard cylindrical Hi-Tek keycaps.

I was considering grabbing that one to steal some of the keycaps for custom keyboards. But probably just as well not to, as I have enough other (keyboard-related and non-keyboard-related) projects to finish.
I don't think the whites are as highly regarded as black, but nonetheless it's not your everyday switch
The white switches are one of the best linear switches of the 1980s–90s. Much nicer than Cherry MX black, IMO. Comparable to green Alps in smoothness, more stable, and a bit stiffer. Whether someone likes white or black space invader switches better is a matter of personal taste.

(Obviously the above refers to switches in perfect condition. The board here looks pretty dirty, and the switches might be unusably gritty for all we can tell.)

I really like the space invader keycap profile. Probably my favorite cylindrical keycaps.

I would get this, but US. It might have Monterey blue switches.

(Seller also has a corresponding mouse which looks nice, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-3-Butto ... 2caa04373a)

Any other hint this could be Monterey blues, other than the KB-5181? I don't think this is a KB-5181.

Ultra-rare, ultra-desirable vintage keyboards in excellent condition selling for approximately double the price of a new plastic Topre keyboard manufactured yesterday?

I can't see why this is surprising at all.

= human greed. I wonder if Alps Electric could reboot their SKCL/SKCM series production if they really wanted to. That would put a nice spin on all this madness.

Here's a keyboard that is expensive because of the "Macintosh TV" computer it came with being rare. It's a black Apple Keyboard II that is pretty much the same as the beige ones. Keyboard guys would hate this (it doesn't have exotic key switches) but vintage computer guys would love it if they had a Macintosh TV without a keyboard.

This is very true. But tbh I can't see why people pay as much for Topre as they do, either xD .

Someone on ebay has veen trying to sell theirs for over a year now, started at $1000 and gradually keeps dropping the price, think it was $300 last I checked.

The ultra rare bit is a misconception though. That simply isn't true.

Let's not forget how much a yellowed Datatech SPK-100 went for a few months ago or how much a rusty Focus FK-2001 with blue alps went for. No, I don't think it has much to do with what you say. These prices are a bit more arbitrary.

In other news, I'll be in stitches if this board sells for higher than the Leading Edge DC-3014.

$160 + shipping for a poor-condition DC2014 is absurd. Frankly, anything over $50 is too much.

There are frequently mint condition early white Alps boards selling for $10–20 + shipping with switches that are much nicer than the scratchy blue ones are going to be.
