Ugh. As a fellow cyclist, I feel your pain. Well this sh&t pretty much comes with the territory. I cycle a lot, luckily no injuries so far in bike vs car accidents, but I went over the hood once on my motorcycle. There must be relatively good healthcare where you live, make sure you get them to repair those bones properly.

Aren't you a judgemental one... We don't know anything about the circumstances. Let fossala figure this out...Vierax wrote:Fucking car drivers who forgot they drive a death machine. They should be forced to ride a bike at least twice a week to see how it feels to be vulnerable without a scrap metal armor.

Anyway, get well soon fossala.

Car pulled out from a junction straight in front of me. I was going around 30mrh (speedlimit) downhill.JBert wrote:Aren't you a judgemental one... We don't know anything about the circumstances. I read the whole thread before posting that, it was pretty obvious that the car cuts the road of the bicycle and I assume fossala putted his lights on. And in a bicycle people often are more prudent than in a car, may be because we're slower and weaker.JBert wrote:Aren't you a judgemental one... We don't know anything about the circumstances. There is also good driver and dangerous cyclists, I'm not so narrow-minded.

You still don't know the circumstances. You are rather fast with judgement (like in that thread of this newbie...).
I also wish you a good and fast recovery! Sucks man, just hold tight and keep working that thumb

Bike accidents suck, my last one, I, fortunately was physically mostly ok (no broken bones...). Mentally took it's toll though, even though I wasn't at fault.

Yeah this morning I realise you're right : I did a lot of shortcuts in my reasoning.DeathAdder wrote:You still don't know the circumstances. You are rather fast with judgement.
PM sent, it's not the place to talk about this and it's definitely not the same reasoning : I was pointing an educational lack.(like in that thread of this newbie...)

I'm suprised by the numbers of bike accidents on here.
Well, ok, I grew up in a village with 1500 people. All speed limit on 30km/h. It's hard to get hit by a car under those circumstances.
So, to those who had accidents: Where did it happen? Do you have designated bike ways in your cities? What's the speed limit?
I watched an interesting clip about the bike lanes in the Netherlands/Amsterdam. They are doing it right! http://www.wimp.com/cyclepaths/

I live in a fairly small place as well, only accident I had left the car in worse shape than me and my bike.DeathAdder wrote:I'm suprised by the numbers of bike accidents on here.

I live in Berlin...a big city filled with millions of people...a lot of whom shouldnt be driving a car, but do anyways. We have a regular speed limit of 50 for most larger streets, 30 for side streets. Bike paths are found on some larger streets, but there are in no way near enough to deal with the people biking. Over the past 10 or so years a LOT of people in Berlin turned to using bikes for in-city transportation, and it has only gotten bigger ever since they made it illegal for cars without a green "eco-stamp" to drive inside the inner city limits.DeathAdder wrote:I'm suprised by the numbers of bike accidents on here.

In my situation I was driving on a larger road on my way to university..on a stretch where there is no bike path.
The BMW turned into a driveway without signaling and I hit the side of the vehicle, rolling myself off over the hood.
The accident could have easily been avoided had the driver looked into the side mirror, over his shoulder, and signalled...but he didn't.
It was a combination of knowing how to fall and stupid luck that I didnt end up with more injuries then the broken foot.
My bike needed some repairs, but luckily the frame was intact, so I didn't need a completely new bike.

Ouch...
Hope this is getting expensive for the guy assuming it was his fault. But for no money in the world I would like to have my fingers broken!
Get well soon... and try out Swype!

Got another x-ray yesterday. Ill add a pic for shits and giggles. The brace stays in for another 8 months at the least.fossala wrote:I was going around 30mph, no chance of me not getting badly hurt. You better no ascaii?
I am allowed to walk, run, dance, and ride my bike again...but since the break is still visible I might need another operation at a later date. It all depends how it looks on my next xray in two months.
