Production update:

The factory notes that they are finishing up production of the B104 next month, with assembly finishing up in mid-June. They are going to check that everything is good with the B104, and then they will make the remaining 3 models, with assembly finishing up around the end of July, assuming no issues that require remaking parts. They don't want to make a mistake and have to throw out all the costly aluminum sheets used to make these parts.

That would mean that the keyboards will be shipping from the factory all at the same time in August (not split in two shipments). An early August shipment would mean that the keyboards would arrive to me around the end of September or early October.

Could an increase in tariffs result in the need to recognize a loss for revenue contracts in the scope of ASC 605-35, Revenue Recognition—Provision for Losses on Construction-Type and Production-Type Contracts?

For contracts with customers subject to the guidance in ASC 605-35-15-2, a company recognizes a loss for construction-type and production-type contracts when the current estimate of total costs at completion of the contract exceeds the total consideration the company expects to receive. Depending on the significance of the tariffs and/or the ability to increase the total consideration to recover the cost of the tariffs, a company would need to evaluate if the increase in the estimate of total costs at completion creates an expected loss on the contract. If there is an expected loss, the entire expected loss should be recorded in the period it becomes evident.

As noted in the response to Question 2-1, price changes due to tariffs would be evaluated as variable consideration or a contract modification, which, depending on which of those frameworks applies and the timing of any contract modification, could affect the amount and timing of any provision for a loss contract.

Also,

If the past contract to acquire specified a fixed price and there is not a clause to manage the increase of tariff, the price shall be maintained as a variation to the price of the elements required to manufacture the assembly is a risk of the seller.
Thus for past contracts the price shall be maintainted.

It is the essence of how capitalism operates: capital owners invest resources, manage risks, and seek to create value and profit through the production and trade of goods and services. The system inherently involves dealing with uncertainties, such as changes in tariffs, which are part of the broader risk landscape that capital owners must navigate.

Actually, I can forecast what will happen based on the past ethical records of Model F labs:

The shipping will be delayed (artificially) until the tariffs are reduced enough.

This can/will be done, as there has never been a fixed deadline on delivery of products. It may not be ethical, but dealing with ethics have never been a problem for this organisation (e.g. not responding to legal guarantee, late deliveries, rewarding knowledge and IPR etc.)

I mean....... Obviously? Is that some kind of gotcha I'm missing? If I had an obligation to deliver things that would cause me economic harm I'd also wait until they don't...? Isn't that just common sense?

I know it's safe to virtue signal for you since it's not your money and you dislike Joe but it's incredibly dishonest to claim you'd pay out of pocket and take a loss. I wouldn't, Joe won't, and no one else would either.
