I recently found an Epson AP1003a with Alps SKCL Brown and likely an amber alps spacebar. Not exactly in new condition, but switches are quite smooth for the condition that the board is in.

Both boards look like they have the same style lock lights as that of Fujitsu Peerless keyboards, but I can't be for sure. While I was at the location where I got this board I found another Epson board which felt like it could have had Peerless switches, so it might be possible. From what I have heard, Epson keyboards are pretty rare.guidemetothelight wrote: 19 Jul 2023, 10:28 Is it possible to tell from the lock lights which switches are used ? location doesnt match alps switches as far as I know
That was quite common. Companies were still making XT-class machines for several years after the AT came out, but almost everyone used the more modern, zippier AT key layout.
Fixed that for you.AndyJ wrote: 20 Jul 2023, 00:21 …but almost everyone used the immediately recognisably superior in every way AT key layout; so much so you had to wonder what IBM's designers were taking when they smushed XT together or subsequently chose to inflict it on the PC; good thing they soon fixed their error, albeit too late not to confuse the industry…
agree, probably they are, or I would have probably found a post from a lunatic like us describing how they can come with brownshipower8-32 wrote: 19 Jul 2023, 22:10 Both boards look like they have the same style lock lights as that of Fujitsu Peerless keyboards...
Agreed ! An absolute banger of a board, I´am salivating...
I know, I was trying to make a joke. Seems like next time I should try to hire someone more experienced to do that for me
While I don't think that AT and XT are too far off from each other to not call either both horrible or acceptable, I agree with what you're saying. Except for the unnecessary capslock key where ctrl should obviously be it's quite alright where we ended up with the M's layout.Muirium wrote: 20 Jul 2023, 11:22 XT is just horrible. AT is what they should have started with, and the Model M layout was the ultimate goal; achieved in just a few years, in all. A bit more prototyping inside IBM could and should have launched the PC with AT layout on day one.
Anyway, I really do dig this Epson AT's aesthetic. It's a rare board with that layout which looks nicer than the IBM.![]()
