IBM Model 95 Typewriter - capacitive Buckling Spring

Like teased in the last post about IBM Typewriters (sheesh , wont this guy stop ) my ( very grimy) Model 95 came in.
After learning that the 6787 wasnt capacitive BS , I set out to find those supposedly rarer typewriters.
And found one the same day. For free

Though it being for pickup only , I convinced the "seller" with some nice words money to send it to me.
After a few days of waiting, its finally here.
Here are some images from the disassembly today (dont have time for more atm).


Gorgeous looking keyboard. A very nice touch is the german layout.

There was a dampening layer under the metal plate of the keyboard. Its glue has dissolved over the years and went back to being crude oil or something . Same as the black foam inside the housing.

yeah, parting it from the machine, especially when yours is in such nice shape, is a huge shame. At least find someone who needs to repair theirs instead of trashing the thing

I didnt part out a working example. The machine was broken and on the verge of getting thrown in the trash.

Typewriters don’t mind if you take their best parts on the way to the scrapyard. Indeed, there’s so many of them out there compared to the remaining interest, you won’t even wind up the vintage computing crowd. Well, unless that’s their special thing, of course.

I’d keep the iconic golf ball, myself. Though if someone gets in touch with you for parts for an actual typewriter repair project, then fair enough. I simply expect most of these things end up in China, (for recycling) at best, or your local landfill.

What about it doesn't work? if it still powers on and whatnot it might just need some AA batteries. Regardless it's cosmetically better than any off the ones I've got, mine keep getting damaged in shipping

This one wasnt very well packaged either.... But its very grimey / oily inside

Eager to see what you're going to do with it. Any plans for that big "Code" key? That one doesn't have a buckling spring stem, or does it?

It actually looks a little bit like cherry mx ( a bit tighter & with one of the 4 legs broken off)
Not yet tbh , still deciding if I wanna do a one off or wait for the GB for that nylon case for it.

annoyingly it was connected to a threaded rod that was used as a lever to a mechanism in the back of the machine

Ahh ok, so just like with the Marquardts.

It actually looks a littble bit like cherry mx ( a bit tighter & with one of the 4 legs broken off)

It perfectly fits T-mount cherry M7, or you could remove and reuse the reed switch it already uses.

It also fits MX with one of the legs just cut off. But then you cant press it since the keycap will hit the mx housing. So I designed an adapter to go onto a mx black , designed a housing and now use it to power up my (second) pc, since I needed to use an external one anyway

Given the fact that I filled it up from half and had 3/4 left when I returned, I'd deduct it was about 25 quid. Not a bad deal

Ah, that looks really cool! Especially for the price. What's your end goal with the keyboard assembly?

I have a wheelwriter I use from time to time, either for art or just for fun. This thing is an entirely different beast, but I don't want to rip it apart, to be honest. My main goal is to get the whole thing working eventually.

Ah! That’s fantastic!! I was a tad worried you were going to rip apart a wonderful piece for a USB keyboard we have dozens of these days with the repro in full swing
