I need a board for my Maya hotkeys while 3D Modelling, so I've come up with this.
It will be a companion piece for my SGI AT-101, so I will be using its profile as a template.
It uses Yellow Alps and the case will be made of wood, here is the Quentin Blake bar napkin design.

The caps I'll be using will be harvested and repurposed from my old editing keyboards, the legends won't be what I need, but I have a plan for that, hehe.
In the meantime, it's off to the exotic Wood store to choose a material.

I'll be taking the steel plate from a dissected editing console. This corner chunk is all I need.

Yo this project is sick!! Keep the updates coming!
This project and that exotic wood shop pic (mmm, bloodwood) makes me wish I knew how to woodwork. And Alpsy!
Always been a Roald Dahl fan, so I love that Quentin Blake-style napkin design, too.

To be clear, my woodworking skills could use some finesse, but I'm trying to get better. That is my favourite store though, the endless possibilities of things that can be made.CountNoctua wrote: 09 Sep 2019, 22:11 This project and that exotic wood shop pic (mmm, bloodwood) makes me wish I knew how to woodwork. I wish I had a proper bench grinder, but I blew all my money on the wood and a scroll saw.

Okay got the basic shape of the wood done!
I'm going to sand it to 1200 Grit, then Danish Oil.
I think it will come up real nice.

Made some mistakes with the pine dowells showing through the wood, I didn't realise the sanding would take off so much material but oh well.
Here it is with switches.

I don't want red LEDs like some of these yellows come with, I want green, so I ordered some replacement square LEDs online. For the the switches that have no LEDs like this one, I just had to make two holes with a small push pin.

These editing keycaps are quite plentiful, so modifying them a bit is no huge crime. Pad printed, so I've found a light go with 600 Grit is enough to take off the lettering, without leaving striations on the surface. Plus it leaves a smooth canvas to put my new legends on. I'm using Avery clear label sheets, printing them out on a laser printer, this is a test on the blue ones and I like the way it looks.
