You will need to desolder the switches, yes. Desoldering isn't actually too hard, just tedious so you shouldn't have any trouble with it assuming you know how to solder at a basic level.

If you just want to identify the switches, you can use a key puller to remove a keycap; you could make your own out of some solid metal wire or order one online.
You should then be able to refer to the wiki and previous posts to tell apart Alps, Acer switches and Alps clones.
