Converting a Hall Effect to USB

And down the rabbit hole I go...

So I have a hall effect board that I would like to use with usb. I also am a computer engineering student looking for projects that aren't entirely programming.

I will post pictures sometime, I have 3 exams coming in the next 3 weeks, but the information I have is that it has 34 pins that connect to the viewing screen. I'm assuming I need to use something like a digital logic analyzer to figure out what each of those pins do, am I correct? If so, what do you guys recommend for one?
