Cool, that's the first time I've ever seen the 5001 box. Definitely cooler than the rather funky 9000 box art. I also never knew it was ALSO called the KeyPro.

That's an OK deal for both of them. I've also never seen an FK9000 boxed. Nice. We can use some pictures of yours for our wiki!

Where do you see a 5001? I don't think either of these are FK-5001's. They would have a lock light bank top right, and the calculator side would have 5 keys at the top row just under the screen instead of 4. Both nice boards though!

The top one has "01" poking out from under the foam, hence why I figured it'd be a 5001.

Oh yeah that is odd...no offense meant in any case, I was genuinely curious since I own an FK-5001.Chyros wrote:The top one has "01" poking out from under the foam, hence why I figured it'd be a 5001.

Nop offence taken at all, I don't think that's something anyone would take offence at xD . It's probably just a weird case anyway - Focus weren't exactly the most consistent of companies xD .
Love them to bits though.

I guess that's my Canadian coming through. Yeah, perhaps that's one of the QC reject boards that made it through to retail with an erroneous label. Could be a rare specimen! Quick, Sell it on Ebay WITH MUCH BOLD WRITING for $400!

With their two left hand rows, the Foci (plural of Focus?) are really good. But that silly bigass return key... whatever were the people who designed these keyboards thinking when they made a super big return and a super tiny backspace?
No mistakes! We don't make mistakes! Just press enter and watch the computer go!

Focus famously used a layout that didn't include a tiny backspace but a fullsize one instead :p .

I never did feel that the IBM PC was anything special. The PC's success seemed to come from the "Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM" notion. Even IBM admit that "[what] created all the interest was that it was built by IBM."
http://www-03.ibm.com/ibm/history/ibm10 ... ter/words/
Regardless of how good the hardware was, they combined it with a third-rate OS. And it still floated.
It's no huge surprise that they kept stuffing up the keyboard layout repeatedly. They stuffed up a lot of things about the PC.
