This may be impossible but I just finished soldering soarer's converter internally to my siig minitouch's ps/2 header pins. I know the fn key does not send HID codes when pressed. I checked this with HID_listen. I'd really like to be able to remap the fn key to the caps lock key. Is there any way I could make the converter/teensy register the keypress by bypassing the board's ps/2 microcontroller?

You could run jumper wires to a different key and it would then be a duplicate of that key which you could then remapremap to caps lock. Problem is that you lose another key on the keyboard that way. You could also check if there's a spot to for another switch on the PCB that is not filled with a switch (if the board had accommodations for different layouts) and run jumpers to that spot which may generate a scan code.
