My Army of Alps SKCM Blue

Finally got around to desoldering that Datacomp board last night, and I can't believe how smooth these switches are. I don't know where that board has been, but the switches are buttery AF.

I broke one pin in half on five of the switches (and I'm keeping three of them because they feel...strangely different), but as you can tell, the rest are ready for action.

(sorry for the potato pic, I just can't be bothered to keep my Nikon charged these days)

They would look MUCH better if you take a pic with better light. They look like SKCM Greyish ... let them SHINE!

So true - and the light in my living room is very warm, especially when the cosy Christmas lights are up.

I think I'll buy one of those cheap foldable lightboxes from China (just wish they were wide enough for a fulllsize keyboard).

I got one on ebay that easily big enough (80x80x80):

So ridiculously cheap, including THREE studio lights with feet ...

Nice one - I might go for something like that actually.

Damn you Wodan. First you make me buy a sonicator (thanks, btw, it's awesome), now you'll make me buy a lightbox...

Another option if you can live with a smaller (too small for a full keyboard) lightbox. It's $11 shipped, and it has built-in LEDs:

I bet your blue Alps felt smoother inside the Datacomp.

Actually no.. They felt smooth, absolutely, and the sound was really something else. But I've only had blue Alps as single switches, never tried them in a keyboard before, so I guess I wasn't sure if I was just imagining it because I wanted it to be true.

But once they came out and I had them between my fingers, I could compare the smoothness against other switches without the variables introduced by keycaps, plate, etc. And they are glorious!

They sound completely different outside the keyboard of course, and fiddling around with loose switches can't ever tell you what they're actually like to type on; but in terms of smoothness versus scratchiness specifically, I can tell better with desoldered switches.
