Sometimes it's nice to have a 2nd camera in case you somehow screw up your primary. I have a dinosaur Canon 300D here for that reason. Other times you might want to take pictures of something but the location is a bit sketchier than usual and you don't want to risk losing\damaging your more expensive one.

Nostalgia! It's the DadCam. I got it as a birthday present a week before littleXMIT was born.
Plus, the D7000 is (slightly) smaller and lighter than the D600, and the included 18-105mm DX lens is a surprisingly good all-around lens. We keep the D7000 around for quick snapshots of the kids and I use the D600 for more serious work.
