Do you think it's relevant at all that he had 999 posts here?
Why is his last visit marked with a dash instead of a date/time?
I noticed that he had been active here last in March of 2014, and active on GH until August 2014. Were his latest posts here removed perhaps, or did he simply ignore DT after March?
It's hard to remain uninterested in his departure from both sites. I was wondering if he got disgruntled with somone, or just what. Guess that may never be determined.

You know klikkyklik, real life can get in the way of all this here. Either way, I'm guessing it was something a little more important than this keyboard stuff. Let's hope he's OK. There have been cases here of users that were so upset they decided to leave. Happens. If that's the case here I do not know.

Total mystery to us. There's certainly been no deletions. We DT mods avoid that.

I remember reading that thread, but somehow missed that you had his name and address and actually attempted contact him via mail. It's at least somewhat comforting to go with your conclusion - that he just wishes to remain silent - than think that something bad happened to him.
Thanks, Muirium.

Soarer probably was an alien from a benevolent planet that visited us from the future to impart his keyboard converter knowledge, and then simply returned to his home planet once his mission was completed. Little do we know, his converter will someday lead to world peace.
Or at least that is what I like to think.

Nah, that would have made more sense if he'd actually published the source code, as he said he meant to do.
And you don't remember the petty squabbles he had with 7bit! Those were always a laugh.

I remember reading one Wiki author page and between Beardsmore, 7bit, and Soarer, it was getting a bit tense! That's why I wonder sometimes if he just thought "screw it" and called it a day.

That's the likeliest explanation. As far as I can tell, he's alive and well, but seemed to pick a strange time to finish up his hobby once and for all. He woke up one day and someone had his manly bits in a vice…
Hmm, sounds familiar. I wonder if she's Scottish.

soarer had a keycap allergy and even DT wasn't safe for him anymore once round5 started picking up steam.vivalarevolución wrote: Soarer probably was an alien from a benevolent planet that visited us from the future to impart his keyboard converter knowledge, and then simply returned to his home planet once his mission was completed. Actually an absence of something. I explained it on the other thread. I sent Soarer a letter, which I included a few ways of getting in touch with me, including a return address on the back. Typically, mail will bounce back to the sender if the recipient is no longer around.

Considering he stopped posting here months in advance of stopping posts on GH - that might also suggest that he "voluntarily concluded" his relationship with both sites (as opposed to getting hit by a bus).
I know, we can speculate all we want, it's just the mystery of it all. I've been reading more and more of his posts and he really was a cool dude that knew his stuff. Argh.

Everyone's more active on one forum than another. I mean, I still haven't made my first post at GH! Soarer wasn't an everyday regular around here, so much as he'd drop in to support his converter and a few other projects that caught his fancy. I never noticed him talking about caps or his collection. He was a workshop man.

Holy cow, you're right. "Last active" date on GH was 8/30/2014, however. Stopping on GH five months before not being active anymore? I conclude as Muirium has with his mail theory that he voluntarily stopped posting. I only hope that it wasn't due to health reasons or something, but the reason I don't really think that is because 999 posts here is just way too coincidental.

Last active just means he hit the site with his browser. It doesn't mean posting or messaging, or indeed any actual activity. Could have been accidental.
Anyway. I don't get the fascination. I followed up for the guy with the reverse engineered code he wanted blessed, for good reason. But what are we up to here? Trying to summon a Soarer by saying his name enough times? Move on, folks. He did.

Hmm... if repeating the name enough times brings someone back...

I wrote this to explain what I think is a rather interesting story to some friends that aren't keyboard geeks (nor DT/GH members), but are generally interested.
I hope what I've written is accurate and explains it well enough.
