Please! I want something unique, but also something that's short and catchy. I'd prefer for it to have meaning. Maybe a specific symbol? I like some of the stuff on APL sets.
I'll provide as many details as you need.

Windmills do not work that way!
No, your username must come from within, the result of much internal reflection. When you have a good one, you'll know.

I've been thinking of changing mine for ages too. I got on DT via IRC first, and on freenode, "Scott" was obviously taken, so I settled for the first thing that came to my head. Fast forward 1.5 years and I'm left wondering why I didn't spend 5 minutes contemplating the decision...

I'm well aware. I've been on the hunt for a name for two years now. They're not so easy to come by. I thought I'd ask around. Get some suggestions, you know?
Well. His name is Rehan. He's a major in software engineering. He works at SAP, a software firm based in Frankfurt, Germany. He's a also a certified realter. He's always encouraged me to follow my dreams. He says there is nothing I cannot do. If Wilbur and Oliver Wright had believed that human flight was impossible, they'd have never invented the airplane. This lesson is the most valuable piece of advice he's ever given me.
I have no idea what that sign signifies or means............................

The Wright Brothers were a pain in the arse who did as much to hold progress back as much as press forward. Pioneers like Otto Lilienthal led the way before them, and once they had made their breakthrough they became patent trolls and held back American aviation for years! Fortunately, their power was confined to the US, and once the Wrights lost, innovation resumed in America too.
Not that we let things like that get in the way of hero worship!

Well, I am a ginger, so that's where the "red" comes from in my username.
"maus" just sounds cool.

Yes there is! I just typed a bunch of periods that time, like Ace does. But a group of three is technically a character called ellipsis. It means a little pause, or an awkward trailing off. I type them (perhaps a little too) frequently. You can hold down . on Mac and iOS to get them via a popup, or do what I do and hit Option + ; The fact I know the shortcut speaks volumes…
Ahem.
Let's see if you can spot the difference.
1: ...
2: …
Which one is ellipsis?

The second is the ellipsis, and Word usually auto-corrects 3 periods to ellipsis making for funny long dot lines when making a form for someone to fill in by hand.

Oh yeah look they even have them in android .......... I knew what they mean. I did not know they have a name. And such an elliptical name! Those three dots did not deserve that name. My answer is ...2.

right now i switch between this username and SL89 and Vodka_Gobalsky (mostly on IRC) usernames are like anything else and can be disposed of at a moments notice. don't get too sentimental on them because somewhere out there in the vastness of the web another netizen has already taken the name and probably not used it for years... so you can't get the same username everywhere

Correct. Now we're all on the same page…
I think Ace's username should be a single ellipsis. He's already in the single character rank illuminati.

How about some word association...
An ace can be a card from a deck of playing cards, a fighter pilot with more then 5 kills, or a bunch of other things... The HiAce is a swag van from Japan as well. So there's a lot to work from.

Yeah "ace" carries a lot of "weight". The card symbol is nice, but can't do it.

Ace is a bad nick name.
But WW1FlyingAce is even worse. I would hate it.
One of my favorite german words is "Bewegungsapparat". You could use it.
Or something friendly?
helping-human
alshine (ace loves sunshine)
Or something mean?
Traceter (mixed Ace and Traitor)
Or
i use a bad heavy laser mouse
IUABHLM
and so on...

Just put two words together. An adjective and noun works, or even just two nouns will do.
I would award bonus points if they had some non-obvious meaning (or at least a reason for pairing) which is never explained.
However arbitrarycombination has already won.
