Cherry G80-1220HAU

Got this earlier today. A lovely G80-1000 series from 1990 with MX blacks and doubleshot keycaps. Unlike most others, it has a serial connector. Since there is an interface switch on the back which includes AT, it's my hope I should be able to get this working with full NKRO [see diodes in switches] with a passive serial->PS2 adapter. I'll just need to get the pinout right.

Nice board, I don't think I've ever seen a serial G80...I'm guessing as its got a strange product number it was for a specific customer.

Also, looking at that PDF, holy shit the size of those numpad mods on page 2.

Nice one. I can send you an original cable from a g80-1000 for the cost of shipping. Ive got a couple of corpses of that type lying around.

Thanks for the offer Ascaii! I've already got plenty of cables though, and I don't want to actually touch this board. I'll be making an extension cable that adapts serial->ps2.

To people that have owned a few 1000s before..

Have you ever seen the PCB in them attached to the top piece at the corners with thin sheets of clear plastic/rubber with adhesive on either side? The PCB of this board is attached like that with no screws visible. I'll take some photos when my battery recharges.

I've never had a 1000 but I think I've had something similar sounding on a few 11900s, a picture would help for sure.

Yes, but the box is ruined by tape and marker..

Here are the pictures [not very good]. Every corner is like this, so there are 8 of these strips in total. I cannot lift the PCB up at all around the strips, but towards the centre of the edges I can. Initially I thought I was blind, and I was missing some screws, but as far as I can tell it's these strips holding the PCB to the top of the case.

Oh right, totally not what I thought it was...never seen that before. I'd personally leave the PCB where it is, I wouldn't want to risk breaking it. I guess you could try hair-dryering the plastic bits to try and melt the glue and seperate the case and the PCB if you really wanted to take them off, slow and steady though, don't want to bugger up such a nice board .

It 4P4C connector, just same as Dolch... if it does speak AT it have high chance of being same.
To be sure, you'll have to get a look at the cable pinout on the PCB to make sure it match AT on normal 1000 model. Should be simple from there.

There lies my problem. I cannot remove the PCB because of the way it's attached
