Yeah, I'm currently using an old g80-1800 with mx blacks and they're sooo smooth. The only smoother switches I've found so far are white space invaders (which I still haven't cleaned for use).
You're getting me excited with that vintage black comparison but that sounds like a lot of work and I don't have enough time these days to do something like that. Gonna try to clean one of them and see if the difference is worth the effort.

I have various keyboards with different Alps switches and NO that is not how they are supposed to feel.
