Making molds isn't cheap, part of the price is to recover this costs...

For the "pain to swap" part... With the help of switch opening tools it takes me just some seconds to open a switch -> remove stem -> replace spring -> put stem back in-> close the switch. Replacing just the covers should be even faster :)

The clear covers are actually quite useful for backlit keyboards as they help to spread the light.
Also there are transparent polycarbonate caps available which make it possible to see cover and stem.

The only problem I had when I got my first board with reds was that I bottomed out a lot, but I was able to adjust after some weeks. Generally I prefer stiffer tactile switches for typing but reds managed to get my 2nd favorite switch as typing on em feels sooo "effortless", also I don't wanna use ...
