Yeah i was told the R2 is replacing the older range.

The older range are still SUPERB and you can easily tell it's a Realforce but the latest models look like some Yum-cha-no name style done in the back streets of China, rather than coming from Japan.

So sad to see how far Realforce has fallen ...

Not the ones I've seen in person (which seemed to be the same as these). Thicker outlines + deeper sticker material. It made "Professional" look more smeared together. The Gold is a different colour too.

I've seen these on keyboards, they look really cheap. Not the same level of detail.

Krytox is a high-end wet lube often used for keyboard stuff, seems to work quite well in most cases as long as you don't over apply. Various keyboard shops and Amazon/Ebay sometimes carry it in smaller quantities. You can also use dry teflon lubes like "super lube" and other brands. These are ...

It feels a touch more like Realforce in terms of smoothness, not so much the stiffer metal plate qualities. The hollow HHKB thock is still there too. The lube just brings you a bit closer to experiencing oneness with the domes.

Just don't sell it! I much prefer my HHKB with a bit of lube (used krytox blend because I already had it on hand). Made it feel a bit more like Realforce.

...And keep it because even if you eventually sell it you will want it again

The design and tech seems very dated to me, pretty lazy too. AA's are completely unnecessary in the age of modern 2-3mm thick LiPo packs. They could've fit a BT4 module and modern battery inside the existing enclosure, if they were actually trying.

Definitely agree with you that the ball needs to rotate freely. Any sort of friction or snagging contributes to jumpy/jerky movements on screen. The KEM doesn't spin freely/smoothly enough at low speeds. Combine this with a very average sensor... unimpressed.
